I like a nice debate and to get people to think outside the box. With this said.....

Eho believes in the super natural ghosts and the like, also have you seen one.

Ive seen a few ive lived in a couple of haunted houses. When I was with my ex wife we had one ghost that didn't like her it was a female she use to make sure my cover stayed on me but took hers off her [we had separate beds]. Also woke to one hanging over my head.

I've lived in a couple of haunted houses so don't doubt they exist. However Im a big fan of the theory that the existence of ghosts supports the idea that we are living in a simulation. The presence of ghosts reflects new data constantly being written over old data and glitches or bugs in programming of the simulation. Massive curve ball to the conversation

The old guy that walked up our stairs in the middle of the night and waved at me when I was going to the loo was most definitely a ghost.

He was also a very good pianist. And used to play some nights.. no one else in my family could play piano. And random strangers didn't pop into the house in the middle of the night to tickle the ivories.

both my 2 sons have seen an old lady in my house, youngest whilst going to the toilet and the oldest and his mate saw a old lady in the living room going into the kitchen, because he'd just let himself in they both went into the kitchen to see who it was, no one was there, I have had my arse slapped whilst climbing into bed, the guy I bought the house from had bought it from new and no one has ever passed in the house or who has ever lived here, the land used to be a spud field.

If they see into the future - what did the future look like ?

If they saw into the past which era did they 'see' ?

What is it about some people that makes them able to see through time ? Why can't the rest of us do it ?

A few things. The fact that he was there in the middle of the night, and when I asked my parents the next day who the man was that was staying over, they were immediately worried about someone breaking in.

The fact that, even though I was young, even I knew that the chances of a very old man being a burgler in a small Welsh village was incredibly slim

And the fact that a few weeks later we found some old photos in the attic, and one of them was the old guy with I'm assuming his missus.

And finally, our neighbour who had lived in the village for years, confirmed that the guy in the picture was the guy that lived in the house. And that he'd died many years previously, and that residents that had lived in the house before had also seen him. I'm guessing none of them were adventurous or curious enough to explore the attic, but us 4 kids were very nosey.

We also had no prior knowledge of any haunting, because we moved to Wales from Kent for My dad's work.

My mother the 2nd time, 1st time a miner who walked past and actually talked to me before going on the coalface, I then realised he wasn't wearing a cap lamp, the coalface was broken down and we were waiting for a new part, I went to the entrance of the coalface and no one was there, the coalface was 260 metres long and I would have seen the guy going down the faceline and no living human could have walk around the mine and especially a coalface without a cap lamp

A few things. The fact that he was there in the middle of the night, THE TIME OF NIGHT IS NOT PROOF IT WAS A GHOST. and when I asked my parents the next day who the man was that was staying over, they were immediately worried about someone breaking in. YOUR PARENTS CONCERN PROVES NOTHING.

The fact that, even though I was young, even I knew that the chances of a very old man being a burgler in a small Welsh village was incredibly slim

And the fact that a few weeks later we found some old photos in the attic, and one of them was the old guy with I'm assuming his missus. STILL NOT PROOF

And finally, our neighbour who had lived in the village for years, confirmed that the guy in the picture was the guy that lived in the house. I gave up writing NOT PROOF . It's just easier to say that nothing that's been said proves the existence of a ghost.

Incidentally , stating the word 'fact' every time you say something , doesn't make it so.

I'm interested but inclined towards believing that ghosts don't exist, as it would likely mean that much of what we understand about the universe would be wrong. The law of conservation of energy, would be likely breached, should ghosts come and go, move stuff, etc.

Despite the various psychic arena phenomena having been scrutinized, I'm unaware of good evidence for the existence of any of them.

There’s been the odd moment at the current “haunted” pub I work in , like hearing strange creaks or feeling like someone’s behind me when there’s no one there but it’s probably just the old building settling or my mind playing tricks. Still, it does make me glance over my shoulder sometimes when I’m locking up late! All in my head though.

But GC, you misread me; I'm not a believer, not one little bit. Hoped my opening line was clear 😉

My 'one' was just merely the overactive imagination of a young boy in his bedroom with eerie lighting from the moon creating all sorts of shadows and highlights at the end of the bed. What did it look like? it was a little old lady sat at one of those old yarn spinning wheels. Scared the living piss out of me!

I don't believe in any of it. I maintain that line.

But I will be honest. Something did happen to me half a lifetime ago that I can't explain to this day with several witnesses, and it ended my then blossoming relationship due to fear. I'm not going to talk about it or go into detail and it happened on a long lonely road in the west of Kerry.

At the time, I thought I was going mad and still can't explain it and it shook me to my core, question my sanity, and I can tell you I know now, what fear is.

I am actually related to that famous ghost skeptic in the US, and our family is known for skepticism on this subject.

But I still can't explain it, and neither could he when I related the story. It caused him to question his own skepticism.

As per Marvin Gaye (I Heard it Through The Grapevine) and plenty of others before him including Edgar Allen Poe: Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear.

The mind can play tricks on you and it often does especially when emotions are involved. It's nearly 2025 and despite the fact nearly every person in the Western world - along with a fairly big proportion of the rest of the world - now owns a camera of some description nobody has ever recorded anything that conclusively proves that ghosts exist.

"No one has ever seen a ghost. No houses are haunted.

I believe you when you say you saw something but it certainly wasn't a ghost."

The entire material world we see in all its shapes, colours, lights, tastes, smells and sounds there’s nothing but an illusion of a bunch atoms arranged in different ways interpreted by the brain. Sense organs select vibrations and the intellect decides what to perceive. The most beautiful sunset is nothing more than a bunch of waves vibrations.

It’s simply not possible to tell somebody else what they have seen or experienced unless you are living with their sense organs and intellect

Disagree. The comment you are replying to says "I believe you saw something but it certainly wasn't a ghost"

This acknowledges what you say - that we all interpret reality differently - but states that ghosts don't exist so whatever the person interpreted as one, wasn't. It is possible to make that statement because we (as in humanity) have demonstrated, with high levels of accuracy, that within the domain our grasp of the laws of the universe extend to, which includes all of everyday life, there is no room for ghosts. This has been further backed up by the £millions in unclaimed prize money offered to the first person who can demonstrate the reality of a range of paranormal phenomena.

THIS!

"The entire material world we see in all its shapes, colours, lights, tastes, smells and sounds there’s nothing but an illusion of a bunch atoms arranged in different ways interpreted by the brain. Sense organs select vibrations and the intellect decides what to perceive. The most beautiful sunset is nothing more than a bunch of waves vibrations.

It’s simply not possible to tell somebody else what they have seen or experienced unless you are living with their sense organs and intellect"

"I had an interesting encounter / conversation with a spirit once. I’m not sure I would call them a ghost. At the time I was naked with my whole body coated in a clay type mixture made from Peyote, a Mexican plant used by shamans, so that may have had something to do with it."

Was the spirit's name Ayahuasca?!

I'd never tell someone else what they have seen or experienced.

I would tell them that there are no such things as ghosts and no houses are haunted.

Psychotics very often have experiences outside of reality as perceived by the majority.

If I had an intellect equivalent to a person who repeatedly uses phrases like, 'I saw one once' and expect such opinions to be taken as facts or proofs I'd start a thread about the zombies that live in my garden shed.

I'm very pleased that some have been fortunate enough to experience events they cannot comprehend.

.

The next step is to perform experiments and discover evidence to support the theory.

.

If you can provide such evidence, then it can be peer-reviewed and tested by others, and then knowledge can be acquired. Nobel prizes tend to follow such ground-breaking discoveries.

.

If evidence cannot be provided, or peer-review reveals flaws in the theory, then it's junk.

.

Nothing wrong in having theories, but they've got to be tested, otherwise it's just inconsequential noise of no merit.

I've experienced supernatural events on more than one occasion - the first when I was a child.

I've also had a poltergeist and another incredibly frightening experience after I underwent an exorcism in the 1990s (seriously).

But, I remain unconvinced that ghosts are really the dead - I think there are ways to channel the energy of those who have come before us, but generally speaking, I do not think ghosts are all they seem.

I tend to think something else afoot, more to do with the power of the human mind to tap into something else, to create palpable manifestations based on collective cultural mythology and expectations.

I don't think we can or will ever be able to explain all of this through science, because our need for mythology will always create new mysteries.

Whilst I mentioned previously that I am of a test your theory with rigorous science mindset, I am aware of someone who has done that as part of their thesis and doctorate. He is a physicist with a particular interest in quantum mechanics.

.

Said individual was told in no uncertain terms that if he submitted his proposal, others in his native country would attempt to kill him, because it directly challenged their religious dogma.

.

His theory, along with evidence, was essentially that intra-dimensional entities do exist. He does not believe they are Angels or Demons as his native country believe in, but rather unknown entities co-habiting dimensions unknown and also known to us.

.

I'm hoping to catch up with him again at some point to ask him more and I've dearly love to see his research.

I used to work in a place that was freaky, lots of story’s going back 100s of years about ghosts in the place. It was very creepy and in places you felt like you were being watched and you could hear things at night. It was freaky

But yea I 100% believe in ghosts x

Eho believes in the super natural ghosts and the like, also have you seen one.

Ive seen a few ive lived in a couple of haunted houses. When I was with my ex wife we had one ghost that didn't like her it was a female she use to make sure my cover stayed on me but took hers off her [we had separate beds]. Also woke to one hanging over my head."

I've ever seen anything that would make me think there are such things as ghosts.

My issue with ghosts are how come you never see Neanderthal ghosts? Or dinosaurs. Or various animals. If everything has a spirit, then why do some appear and others don't?

The universe is governed by rules, so what are the scientific reasons why ghosts seem to be around. Why do we not see them constantly and only a certain amount of people have the experience?

For me, there are too many questions and not enough solid scientific answers to explain the phenomena. Blindly believing in ghosts is on par to religion, in my eyes. You're putting faith in something that has no real place in the scientific world.

Not to mention that too many situations have been debunked on multiple occasions.

Sleep paralysis, psychosis, the mind filling in the gaps, seeing something out of the corner of your eye, to name a few.

People are far too quick to forget just how powerful the brain can be, both for our benefit and detriment. Especially under duress of any sort.

I find it funny how they always do ghost hunts late at night, when your senses are both heightened and dulled at the same time, often causing confusion and anxiety.

I mean so long as you're not hurting anyone by believing in ghosts, fair enough. But there simply isn't sufficient evidence, other than "someone saw this and felt that" for me to believe they're a real thing.

Same goes for Bigfoot or any of the nonsensical things people believe in. Show me hard, irrefutable proof and you might get my interest.

In our teens, my cousin and I, saw the exact same thing, at the same time. To this day, we don't know what it was. Our friends were convinced it was a ghost when we said it, of course. I'm still not convinced. I don't know what it would take for me to believe in them.

As our brains and minds are the key sources of our experiences, ie where we process and formulate the multitude of sensations we acquire, I don't know why we don't assume that the primary place to be looking for ghosts etc, isn't in our heads. We seem to persistently jump the gun, a little too readily.

We already know that our states of mind, our emotions and basic senses are both vast, yet limited as well as prone to distortion and disturbance, with experiences such as blindsight, highlighting how perceived reality may be different from expectations etc

I read a book many years ago about some ghosts are a kind of recording. Something about geology and other variables providing a playback. The authors argument was magnets and rust allowed you to record sound and vision on tape. No one would have believed that until it was invented. Interesting theory.
