We called them nodders when we were younger, what names have you called them ?

Reminds me of a true story when I first arrived and worked in the UK. My boss had given me an urgent letter to be translated into English and, having completed the task, I had to walk into a board meeting to hand it to him.

I knocked politely, waited to be called in and present my boss with the translation stating "You know this is the French letter you wanted urgently".

There was a stunned silence which felt weird to me. Later that day my boss came round and asked me if I knew what I had said - of course I did not. He explained and I was mortified! Never used that expression since.
