I usually live by the mantra of "there are no stupid questions, only stupid people" but honestly this is a stupid question.

Of course it is a Christmas movie.

Do bears shit in the woods?

Does Carmen Miranda wear fruit?

Of course it's a Christmas movie. In fact it is said that it isn't Christmas till Hans Gruber has fallen from the Nakatomi Plaza

Went to see Die Hard at the Cinema last night. Definitely a Christmassy movie.

It's got Snow, Christmas presents, Santa claus, Xmas party where some guys snort and a girl gets caught with her pants down in the Bosses office, Christmas Carols, Holly and Tinsel, what could be more Festive??

It doesn't feel odd watching Die Hard anytime during the year. Whereas it does watching Elf, It's a Wonderful Life etc. So no not a Christmas film for me.

"Per Bruce Willis it's not a Christmas film "

1. If you are going to do the quote at least do the whole quote. "it's not a Christmas movie, it's a Bruce Willis movie"

2. The writer says it is a Christmas movie. Pretty sure the director said it too.

Writer (and maybe director) trumps Bruce

It's a wonderful life is as much of a Christmas movie as Die Hard is. In ways even less so.

I personally don't think it is in the truest sense of a Christmas film for me and have put films into 3 categories to explain why:

1) Films where Christmas is a central theme and without it, the story wouldn't work - Miracle on 34th St, Santa Claus: The Movie, Elf

2) Films set around Christmas but where the story could work without it - Die Hard, Trading Places, Home Alone, Rocky IV

3) Films unrelated to Christmas other than they traditionally show on Christmas Day - James Bond, Indiana Jones, Star Wars

Met 6 of the cast the question was posed to 2 of them recently one said it was a cult christmas classic, the other said it was a film set at Christmas you can enjoy any time. Set at Christmas release dates July (US) Feb (Uk)

1) Those movies don't hyper focus on Christmas itself, but on a single aspect or feature of Christmas. Mainly being Santa and nothing but Santa. They are not Christmas movies, they are Santa Movies. Just as Violent Night is (the best Santa Movie by the way).

2) Some of, but not all of these movies in thsi category encompass many themes of Christmas. Die Hard for example is about a man doing everything he can, risking his life to be with his family for Christmas. The party is taking place Christmas eve, which is the only time that the terrorists could have all the important hostages while also having very minimal security. Christmas plays heavily in to the plot. Not just a background theme. Same goes for Home Alone.

3) These movies don't matter.

Special mention that also supports Die Hard. NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS is a hybrid movie, it can work at Halloween and at Christmas. It's themes work for both, just as Die Hard does.

Just to clarify, die hard is a hybrid Christmas movie, can be enjoyed anytime. Not a Halloween one.

I just challenged your reasoning. It's called a debate. Should try it and not get so upset that your logic is challenged. It's not good for your health.

There's no debate. Just my opinion on something insignificant and trivial that I have an opinion on. And of all the things I am, upset isn't one of them.
