Government and lots more blame this on eurpoean courts and our human rights act be under no illusion that our courts have also blocked his deportation. Why because clearly in international law torture is illegal and trials for anyone who may be found guilty because being told under pressure what to say is dangerous.

I doubt anyone under torture would not break and confess to anything

Yes i totally agree this twat should not be here but risk of government using human right act as smokescreen to bring in the snoopers charter currently in parliament is a major worry.

or maybe we could actually put accused people on trial and hear the evidence which is a right that you and i are entitled to if accused of lots of other alleged offences..

While I think as stated above that the whole issue is farcical, I completely agree with you on that fact. I would not wish to live somewhere where human rights were not respected.

It would be nice if our government would actually obey the laws they were instrumental in creating. Don't know exactly what he is guilty of in this country, but if there are charges bring them. All this time and money has been spent on an attempted extradition to a place that uk and European laws forbid extradition to. Technically he is an innocent man in our jail.

If he has committed a crime then lock him up, if not then let him out. No reason to spend all this cash, it only gathers extremist supporters to a cause held in his name.

Extraditing him to face torture - what does that say about a civilised, modern and enlightened country?

I may not like Abu Qatada but I am glad we have a judiciary able and willing to uphold the law.

On a really frivolous note I can't hear his name without hearing "Av a banana" in my head.

Hmmm, this torture thing. Is torture ever acceptable? Easy answer is "No". However if someone had kidnapped your kids and wouldn't say where they were what would you do? I know I would torture them. I'd also torture paedophiles for the rest of their lives.

I have lived in those countries and you're correct it's horrifying. During Marcos era in the Philippines 1000's disappeared, Ethiopia in the 80's same thing, Bangladesh, Algeria etc. human rights need to be followed or worse things come as all of those countries discovered.

I am playing devils advocate a bit here as I would also like him gone from the UK, BUT he was on bail for no offence... as he has not been charged with any in this country. it appears that some internet documents found need to be checked to see if he wrote them, and if they are terrorist related.

My gut feeling is that he is considered a flight risk, seems the solution is self explanatory let him try his luck and everyone's patience in another country.
