When do you want to die?

If you could choose, what age would you want to die at?

How many generations of your family would you hope to see born, how many world changes would you want to be there for? Would you cap it to coincide with a loved one?

Before I'm incapable.

Extreme old age isn't pretty if you can't look after your own basic needs.

I don't want to be alone.

When I’m 124 years old. I would have lived in three centuries, and that just seems amazing. I could also die with a woman fully 100 years younger than me sitting on my face 😁

Being honest I only really care to live long enough to see my kids into adulthood of which they aren’t far off now, after that I don’t care how soon i die, I’d never off myself but wouldn’t be bothered if it was sooner rather than later

In very good health probably in to my 90s but I don't want my kids to feel responsible for my well being or obligated to look after me. I'd go in to assisted living rather.

I already feel I've seen enough world events to last me several life times and to show me that history really does just keep repeating itself.

Just realised that my life insurance now covers me for suicide...

And with a history of dementia in the family I've already primed a couple of close friends that if I ever get to the point I need a care home then I want a one-way ticket to Switzerland.

Apart from that, so long as I'm not a burden on others and have all my faculties I'll hold onto the kids inheritance as long as I can.

It’s a tough one.

My Dad is in his 80s and terminally ill, so I have thought about this.

I would say I’d like to go just before being in constant pain and unable to look after myself.

But what if I got better? Even for a while?

Also, I’ve been with someone whilst they died slowly and in pain and I’d rather go out in a bang.

It’s all a bit weird.

You’d think we’d have a better way to do it by now. Bit like pregnancy and birth. It all gets a bit medieval.

I'm not particularly arsed. I've got no kids, no concerns about leaving anyone.

I'd rather outlive my mum because I don't want her having to wrap up my affairs and clear out my flat when part of my estate can pay for that to be done by someone who isn't grieving.

Ideally I'd like to go on the first Sunday in January of whichever year. Enjoy the Christmas break and pop off before I have to go back into work. Perfect.

You are absolutely right.

It is not age related. My mother is 75 years old. She have is in a lot of pain. And chemo therapy is not helping her either. She said she wanted to die. But they don't give that easily, not even on prescription.

For my part, when my time comes. Quickly, without long suffering. Preferably in bed, after I've cum 1 or 2 times with a woman.😂

I couldn’t possibly say. If I chose 85 now, I’m sure I’d get there and think, “I’m not ready yet!”

If I said, “before I’m in pain and need a lot of care,” it would feel like a disservice to my dad. He’s been in constant pain and in need of care for 30 years, and yet he’s still so grateful for life. None of us see him as a burden.

When it happens, it happens. Hopefully not for a very long time, and that’s a pretty wonderful thing to be able to say as someone who for years didn’t want to be alive at all.

Seriously. Any one of you who is presently not disabled or ill or infirm could find that changes in an instant today, tomorrow, overnight. Instead of wishing to be dead, why couldn't we think about how we could improve the world so that being disabled creates much less of a burden?

I am a burden because of structural obstacles.

I am a burden because of the immense cost of mobility equipment, assistive technology and care.

I am a burden because the world expects everyone to be a net financial contributor (which I am, at the expense of my health).

Please forgive me I should’ve been clearer in my reply, as my father did suffer from an incurable type of disease a form of cancer which was making his life particularly painful and was supported only by drugs and daily care in the v late stages of his life

In The inevitability of his death … then certainly it would have been kinder to offer for him an earlier exit from this world , he wanted it to be that, but he was not allowed his choice !

I apologise if there are any thoughtless comments made it was not intended .. I personally i want a choice - I do not want to suffer or live a prolong life in a vegetable state

I would not want to be a Burden for longer than necessary to my family .

I'm 39 and have needed some level of assistance or care from my family since I was 31.

My family say I'm not a burden but I never believe them.

A lot of comments here make me feel like I'm right.

The way our society views those needing assistance or care as a burden is horrible.

In my bed at home hopefully not in excessive pain and still aware of my values.

Hopefully quite a long time in the future…

Despite what people say,I agree with you. On the whole our society is unkind towards people with additional needs of any kind whether physical disabilities, mental health needs or even financial needs. I have often seen it even on here and always challenge it as can't stand people like that. Having said that there are still a lot of people who care and will do their best to support others in a very altruistic manner.

"This is something I do worry about. My dad was just 52 and his mum only 42.

In reality I hope long enough to be that wild woman who should know better but is old enough not to care.

I don't want a care home and if I start to need care, I have told my boys to lace my food. "

I'll be lacing my own food - it's too much on others to ask them to do it.

Although preferably I'd get myself up to the North Pole and have a wrestle with a Polar Bear.

Cuddles, fun, last bit of energy, and a good meal for the big hairy thing.

Unless it then gets a taste for other human flesh, in which case I need to rethink this.

But - Polar Bear wrestle as the last act?

Hell yeah 👊 xx

Personally if health isn’t an issue I’d be happy once I’d ticked every country off, In reality as soon as I can’t travel anymore I’m not interested.

Hmm I would be happy if I make it to 90 and I die in my sleep. I've worked in nursing homes and I've seen what old age can do to people.

After having been alone and single and isolated for so long I don't want to get to the age where I can't see that changing then have to face being alone through that. If I don't start a family or find love I wouldn't want to live past retirement.

I mean, it's definitely an intriguing way to look at things. I'm sure my aunt, who pre deceased my birth, just accepted the inevitability when she was struck by a drink-driver, whilst crossing the road at a marked crossing. She was 16. That's why she died, obviously

"If you could choose, what age would you want to die at?

How many generations of your family would you hope to see born, how many world changes would you want to be there for? Would you cap it to coincide with a loved one? "

Id like to be around as long as someone needs me and wants my company.

When the pain becomes too much to control. That’s it.

Speaking as someone who lives with chronic pain, who’s had level 10 screaming, vomiting and passing out pain. If I get there and it can’t be controlled, I no longer want to be here.

Not sure I'd want to choose to die, so I guess it'll be the day I stop breathing

I don't really want to know when I'll die, I want to know where. Then I won't ever visit that place.
