People who use a salicylic acid face wash

Does it dry your face out and make it sore?

I've been using one for almost a week, and my face is dry, sore and tight. I'm using e45 moisturiser, which burns like a bitch and doesn't really help that much.

Is it supposed to do this to my skin and will it get better?

It's supposed to be gentle and sympathetic to facial skin, but it doesn't appear to suit you seeing that you've reacted to it. I would stop using it. Also, it's not usually used for dry skin but more of a skin clarifier and pore cleanser.

It also depends on which brand you're using and the potency in the formulation of that specific product.

I use The Ordinary™ which contains Squalane which suits my dry skin.

(I've read that Salicylic Acid should be avoided by those who are diabetic or with blood circulation issues. However most skincare products only have a 'small' amount...)

The same Salicylic Acid that’s used to kill warts and verrucas ? 😳

I never heard of this, but I did use once Glycolic peels and washes from someone I met who knew all about these things. Fuck my face was so sore but she said that’s normal. It’s got a damage you to promote a new growth and then my skin was amazing afterwards.

It would probably make your face dry for a while. Your skin is just getting used to it. If it's making your face sore, maybe use less of it. A little does a lot. I use cerave moisturising cream as it doesn't contain harsh ingredients and it's a great cream in general

It's a 2% formula. I wanted to use it because I thought I had a build up of dead skin cells, as I can't use most facial cleansers. Everything burns or I break out in blistery bumps.

I think I should stop using it.

What do you think of Aveeno products?

I used a Cerave face wash and I got blistery bumps over my face.

Are you using it daily?

It is a daily face wash. I did think about only using it occasionally.

My skin on the whole of my face is like sandpaper, with painful, sore patches.

I found a replenishing, rich moisturiser by Simple I'm going to try. Then I'm getting some Aveeno oat gel moisturiser. It's a cleanser I can't seem to find.

If it’s your first time using it, I’d recommend every other day to start, especially if you already have sensitive skin. If you feel like it’s too sore and not getting any better, I would stop.

If you are looking for a good moisturiser CeraVe is great. I use the one for dry skin.

Make sure to patch test new products first. Also new trying new skin care products, give it time to see whether it helps or not. Unless it makes your face burn or sore. Aveeno is good.

CeraVe is the best moisturiser I use. I've tried so many other moisturisers that doesn't help with dry skin. Fragrance free moisturisers are really good, since fragrance can irritate the skin

Another vote for CeraVe. Excellent moisturiser.

Nanna, what happens if you just wash your face with plain water? I don't use any products because I have such sensitive skin and react to most things. I'm only using face suncream now after extensive testing and wasting of money. You might not need to put products on your face at all.

Try a rich balm cleanser like Elemis or a simple cream cleanser like aveno or cetaphil. Both of the latter are lovely if your skin is very dry and sensitive.

It's acid. No more needs to be said.

I used hyaluronic acid for a while then stopped when I realised putting acid on my skin didn't suit it

Aveeno is the best, it's the only product I'll use on my skin.

Sounds more like you need an exfoliating product. If you've got the money, alpha h is excellent and you only need to use 2/3 times a week.

It might be worth getting an app with your Dr. I had some bumps and dry skin on my forehead, it'd turn red with heat and I thought it was some kind of rosacea. I've bought countless moisturisers for this and that and nothing worked. It turned out it was a mild eczema and was sorted in 7 days with a prescribed over the counter med. I'm using la roche posay Lipikar AP+M which is a barrier moisturiser, though the best I've found in buying all I've bought for dryer skin.

I get milia and a spotty face on the oily places.

I rarely use anything on my face because of how sensitive it is.

I mostly stick to Nivea cream or Sanex in the shower.

I've used exfoliators in the past and they all gave me bumpy skin.

I'm a picker, so I need to not have anything pickable on my face.

I use Sanex for my body but just water on my face. No moisturisers or anything else. I do put suncream on if I'm outside but I had to experiment massively.

I had a dry skin problem a couple of years ago, my doctor told me to try Epaderm Cream, it is an emollient that can be used as a face wash and moisturiser, it has worked brilliantly on my dry sensitive skin.

Thank you. I'll have a look for it and add it to the shopping list.

This is a liquid exfoliator rather than a scrub that you wash off, I had similar issues with them.

I am also a picker 😕
