I sometimes, well more often that not get the feeling there is no point writing a profile as most people don't even bother reading it.

What's your thoughts?

I can’t speak for most people, but we both read profiles - what a person says about themselves is more interesting than the photos they post. So if nothing else, OP, know that I’ve read your profile Xx

My thoughts are that you cannot change the behaviour of others. If you are prepared to meet with someone who won't even go to the effort of reading your profile then sure, it's not worth bothering to write it. If you only want to meet with people who show at least a bare minimum interest in what you are looking for then write one that explains these things and use people's responses (or lack thereof) as a filter.

There's no point getting upset by what others do or don't do, it's your profile, do what you want with it and respond to others how you feel their behaviour deserves.

Yeah I do, if there’s something to go off I’ll use it in my first message, also a fuller profile can tell em whether we would be each others type or not. You can’t make too assumptions of course but if they want 9inch and I’m not, well no point me messaging!

I love this subject Ms S.....I do absolutely. Can't speak for all men but for me this element is absolutely critical. Visual...easy look at pics. To know if there might be chemistry and connection for great sex and compatibility comes from the writing (ok initially) in the profile.

Some men (not all before I get hammered by Gentlemen) take this as photocopy salesman technique. Ask 100 maybe get 1 (NOT predjudice to photocopy sales people promise) So they cast a net....I prefer a rod....God that doesnt sound as I intended it!!

I always read the profile. Okay, I might look at any public pics/vids first, but I always read the profile and try to personalise any message I might send. Plus, while the pics/vids might be good, the way a profile is written or it's content can give more of an insight into a person's mind. The tricky part is to figure out who's written the profile when reading that of a couple!

We get around a 75/25 split in people who message without reading the profile and within 2/3 messages of chatting get the good old "so what are you looking for then?" question - which, if they'd read the profile, they'd know or at least be able to ask questions of it.

The few that have we have had some absolutely great conversations and connections with even if sexually we may not be attracted/compatible.

I think the vast majority just like looking at photos/videos, having a wank (let's be honest, a lot of couple profiles are predominantly led by the male half) and trying their luck.

exactly like your profile says not looking for single guys.so I wouldn't dm you.same as being miles away or maybe a non smoker etc. If people can't take a couple of minutes to read profiles fully it shows how lazy they are.

We put lots of stock into reading bios before we message or respond to people.

If you can't be bothered to write anything on your profile, it's an immediate red flag regarding the effort you'll follow through with if we plan anything.

And a but of humour on them goes a long way!

Add to that a Sydney university post flags the naive ones lol

I always read a profile. And if there's something in there I don't like, or vice versa something about me they don't like (I've seen my accent is an "off putter" for some, or the fact I'm not a Greek agonising bodied gym bunny 😂) then I save myself and them the hassle. Also let's me know if I need a key word, or a face pic is required to even get a read, never mind a response.

I do find though that the list of wants/needs/demands on sometimes can be grueling, so I can understand why people sometimes just give up on reading 😂

It’s clearly obvious when people haven’t read mine and still choose to message!

The people who message me always read my profile. Usually they'll reference something from there.

However, I am aware that this isn't the case for a lot of people. I'm not sure what goes on in the minds of those who just speculatively message without gleaning anything about the person beforehand.

Nuneaton, also London and Wiltshire

I always read profiles in detail; they are very illustrative and give really good insight in to the person/couple and their approach to what they are looking for. This provides me a good indication if we’re likely to get on and have much in common.

Whilst pics are great at establishing an immediate sense of physical attraction, that is no guarantee that the other elements will be in place.

Also - someone who has put effort in to writing an interesting profile is likely to put similar effort in to other things.

No denying a large % of people don’t read profiles. But that is just a great filter.

I won’t message a profile without a bio. At least some words to capture my attention.

Based on the brief 7 hours I lifted my filters for overnight on Sunday, and the messages received in that time from non-forumites, only 1 had clearly read my profile (and yet still messaged 🤦‍♀️ )

However I like reading profiles, some provide a good giggle! And when I was looking to meet, it gave me an idea as to the kind of person they might be and if that was someone I might like to engage with.

Love a good profile and so few of them out there.

Ever so sure many don't read ours from the messages we recieve.

I've messaged a few people just because of the bios.

It's always a source of interst and connection.

Poorly written bios often get no reply.

I always read in full if the profile has caught my eye and I intend to message.

Do find so so many profiles are just a list of rules and dislikes, when it could be a great platform for describing their passions? But understand cynicism if been on here a while and get loads of crappy responses.

TBF you may as well write a nice positive descriptive profile of likes, if the only people who read them are the most likely matches for you. Those that don't read it and don't match are no loss anyway?

I personally always read a profile as it's a big waste of time constructing a message if something written in their profile makes it clear that i wouldn't be of any interest to them in the first place. It doesn't stop me from admiring their pictures and fabbing them if i like them....

Actually I think more read than you might think. I have been lucky to meet and asked people. I don’t have a good profile or pictures but it’s not meant I have not met and lucky to meet many. I rely on my verifies a lot. Ones that are not read (fully) are some that go on for pages. Even when you do get to the end you can’t possibly recall all detail they give. For me it’s more how you get on if meet. Much better to discuss in person. Know others will differ in what best for them.

What's your thoughts?

I love this subject Ms S.....I do absolutely. Can't speak for all men but for me this element is absolutely critical. Visual...easy look at pics. To know if there might be chemistry and connection for great sex and compatibility comes from the writing (ok initially) in the profile.

Some men (not all before I get hammered by Gentlemen) take this as photocopy salesman technique. Ask 100 maybe get 1 (NOT predjudice to photocopy sales people promise) So they cast a net....I prefer a rod....God that doesnt sound as I intended it!!"

If the profile is less than 1000 words, it's probably too short and barely tells you anything.

1000-2000 : Better. Warrants a peek at least.

3000-5000 : Now in to serious territory.

10,000 + : Epic level. Demands immediate attention. Turn off TV. Unplug phone line. Mute mobile. Cup of coffee. Ready avidly.

"

Hmm that could go quite pear-shaped couldn't it ?

Imagine using an AI to write your profile. It comes back with something you are happy with and then you post it.

A few days later, you get a message from a potential suitor. Things go from there, and before long you are writing each other incredible messages. You finally decide to meet in a pub. You turn up and wait. 5 mins later, in walks your dream date. She/He is an AI. Yup, your AI-written profile attracted another AI. Now wouldn't that be a thing !

When doing a search for fabs I always look at the person's profile if there is not much in it then it comes across as not bothered or they hiding something specially with no profile pic. Filling in a profile gives a little insite to the person or couple. When I get a message before I do anything I always go to their profile to read.
