They look at your profile before the message. If it's perfectly reflecting you and what you offer, then it's about being amongst the 1% or so of people who are mutually compatible. Show interest, respect and engage with them

If I get a reply, just either a polite "No, thank you" or something to start a conversation. Doesn't have to be existentialism or theoretical physics.

I'm happy to just talk about their day or whatever comes to mind. Small talk is part of how you learn about others and don't have a problem with it whatsoever. 😊
