Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I don't want to get too much into the race issues on this case as it's clear that the 73 year Cllr, John Cherry, cannot defend his comments as being anything else having now resigned.

What do you think of the idea of having a weekday boarding school for inner city children?

Please keep it within the rules so that the thread stands a chance of having a debate and not being pulled when I go off for a pee.

Newcastle and Gateshead

why should there be an issue with it.... they are taking over the premises of what was an old boarding school anyway, so its not like the area isn't use to it.....

I liked to call it a good use of old resources.....

so it did come down to colour and the perception of people from other backgrounds...

Not in my eyes Fabio .... not yet anyway. I don't have enough info BUT

It's an old building. What facilities are there ? Early talks indicate it's not suitable for updating and there would be a new school built.

Would you want your child living 24/5 in an antiquated building ?

What was it's previous use ? Does it have cooking facitilites - bathing facilities - evening passtime facitlites - 600 bedrooms ? Or can poor kids be bunged in dorms ? What about sporting facilities ? Who is going to be there of an evening ? etc etc etc ...... What if ......What if ....... What the fuck IF... the kids don't want to leave their families all week ? Or does that not matter with working class kids? Just round the fodder up and ship them out ?

And this ..

8. Details of how Durand will fund the capital development costs of

the proposed boarding school at St Cuthman's if they exceed the

£17.34 million grant from the Department for Education.

9. Details of the annual estimated boarding costs for the proposed

boarding school during its first five years of operation.

10. Details of how Durand will fund these boarding costs.

I didn't see that they were planning to make them run from Stockwell to the school.

I note Granny's points. The external footage I have seen of the building does look too small for 600 pupils.
