If I had to pick one, I would choose a country cottage as it aligns more with my desire for peace, space, and connection to nature.

I lived in a rural one and the isolation when the car breaks down and the phone network signal is shite, is not nice. I'm definitely a city girl now

City apartment. While I love the countryside, the convenience of being in a city is just too good. Everything within walking distance.

If I could choose a hybrid answer, it would be cottage in the city.

That sounds dirty. 😆

The surroundings / facilities have a bearing

If the cottage is in a village with facilities, a shop, a cafe / tea room / coffee shop, good Internet signal and parking for a couple of cars, count me in

Same with the city centre, the apartment would need to have parking and an outside space - more importantly, no dodgy cladding and no dodgy leaseholder

Otherwise cottage is the closest we guess.

Surely the sign should be cloth with wood underneath.

Somewhere

City apartment. Easy to rent out, lock up and leave. I'm dying to downsize from a big 3 bed with decent garden in the sticks...

It's a pure pain in the arse! And that's at 45, absolutely a nightmare at 75 I'd presume!

I would not swap my current city living. I can travel around London for free. But if I am allowed a second dwelling it would be in a different country - lets say warm, good food and by the sea (Sarawak)

"

House boat

"

Nope. Stayed on one for a weekend and whilst it was an interesting experience I absolutely would not want to live on one permanently. For a start they're called narrowboats for a reason - they're narrow! Also, whilst I'm no giant they're not very tall either - all the ducking would do my back in. Finally, the speed limit on canals is 4mph - I can walk quicker!

"Country cottage"

This would be perfect. Isolated, no noise, no traffic...maybe when I retire if I can afford it.

"City apartment (city of your choice)"

I've done this in Birmingham and London. I enjoyed it when I was in my 20s but I really wouldn't enjoy it now. I'm just too much of an antisocial old fart these days. Even somewhere like Prague wouldn't appeal to me now if I was actually going to live there.
