There’s always at least one person you have no idea what to get. Please share here if you have any suggestions and we can create a bit of an idea-resource and make all our Christmases easier and more jolly

I’ll start - a book for the serious grown up in your life

‘Wild Faith: How the Christian Right Is Taking Over America’ by Talia Lavin

"I find it’s easier to buy them nothing."

Is it okay to get them the same thing two years running?

this was in pure fun and i knew neighbour really well.

id teased her one christmas that id get her a vibrator for a chistmas present this was infront of her friend.

i got told often ( insert swear word ) many a time for it

never said on her own.

so i bought something and when wrapped up it was like a vibrator boxed up nice thick and long

then christmas day it was present time her younger siberlings got presents and i sent hers round with them.

apparently she disapeered upstairs with her present and refused to open it in front of anyone.

I did get a big thankyou though

id managed to find a loverly french manicure boxed set in loverly colours that she liked.

Back in the day when I was really young [late teens] and you had to order sex toys through a catalogue, my housemate and I said how we’d never dare buy a sex toy but secretly we would like to own one, and we decided to work around this by buying them for each other. So the first vibrator I bought was for another woman and the first vibrator I owned was bought for me by a woman lol

Welcome. I asked for ideas under £5 the other day and got quite a few good suggestion...and some not quite so good .

For a less costly option you can send two slices of cake too.

Dubai & Nottingham

if I had no idea what to get them I’d wonder why I’m getting them anything.

It’s the thought that counts so either make an effort to get to know them or don't bother buying for them.

I no longer buy gifts for other people as I have completely scaled back on spending , now we only buy for our kids and their partners... and the dogs.

But, when I did I would make up a gift bag of a few treats such as fancy bar of handsoap (TK Maxx), a small yet posh looking bottle of flavoured olive oil for those into cooking, a mini panettone & luxury chocs (Aldi or Lidl). All of this wouldn't cost a lot and our friends loved them.

I could do that only they’d think I’d eaten the rest 😜

Yes it is the thought that counts, but there are people (specifically older people) who literally have everything they need and buy everything they want. It’s not always that you don’t know someone, you just struggle to find a gap in the things they already have

I've always struggled to find things for my mum (and dad when he was with us), so I often looked at day trips, afternoon teas out, boat trips etc.

Personalised calendar - gather together 12 photos (of the family, their pet, their favourite places etc) and get it printed into a calendar. I use Photobox. They’re always well received, personal, useful and under £20. I try and match the photo for that month with a photo from the month it was taken the year before.
