"Shag at last we 'almost' agree. What you say is perfectly true. Humans don't have to create though, they simply have to 'be'. People never examine their lives. They believe they are free but they are only free to choose within the confines of societal rules. Life has no meaning at all Shag. None. That is part of the reason people should live in the now .....for the next moment may never come. Just 'be'. Just be beings. Just ENJOY being........ stop looking for meaning. " That works for me.

And be understanding that the lot you have presently is only temporary.

"I have thought of it several times and I think that it is to be creative and I think that is it. to create, to experience the joy of taking something out of nothing and producing something glorious, wonderful and beautiful. " By this definition, my life is presently utterly meaningless. Totally and utterly meaningless. Feels pretty pointless, to be fair.

I think when people talk of *their* life as having meaning it can make us feel that we've achieved nothing, have no purpose etc but if there is any meaning at all (there isn't in my opinion it's all just a huge coincidence and we're here making the best of it) it's just to be here. I can well understand why you feel as you do and wouldn't presume to tell you all that stuff about being loved and giving live blah de blah because I can see that you're not in the right place for it but 🫂

But presently, I'm waiting for a carer (!) to come and help me to wash and dress. Then, I'll gather dust until Mr KC gets home

"I think some of us are talking about the meaning of *our* life rather than life itself as a concept" I don’t think the second one really exists does it? Everybody is life has a different meaning and that is whatever they choose it to be.

Life itself just exists and the 'meaning' is the biological imperitive for it to continue. All imho of course

Mine is quite similar, in addition I want to have a positive impact that lives on way beyond me. " Yes, we are super creators and collaborators, that is good yours are similar too

"I don’t think we are meant to create, rather we create to give meaning. It’s interesting that what is considered our highest expression of meaning, art, must of itself be useless as anything other than itself to be art and therefore meaningful. " Art is one is the first things humans did to attach and communicate meaning - probably before any kind of language, religion and science. Art is a core outcome of the transcendent nature of being human Human’s have created a deeply symbolic and meaning-laden world, way beyond what was ever heeded to survive, reproduce or simply ‘be’

When it comes to the meaning of life I think it is us who chooses what our life’s purpose is.

It’s a total cop out Read about people born into or living through the most horrific unimaginable situations ,( Hellen Keller, Viktor Franklin, hundreds more) still able to create the most meaningful lives.

"The meaning of my life today is to dry my hair and give the house a darn good tidy up. I will definitely achieve one of these things even if it is by default" My life would have a lot more meaning today if I could reach the bottle of Oramorph. Alas, I cannot. The morning carer forgot. I await the sweet, sweet relief from pain (well, the sweet, sweet reduction in pain) later today. Until then, my life is mainly ouch. Ouch, ouch, fucking ouch

"42 One very sad day, people will stop getting that reference. " I hope not, Douglas Adams might have only been trying to write something funny but I honestly think it's a wonderful piece of philosophical writing dressed up as humour. If any of you haven't already - read the book. You already know the answer (42), the real problem is knowing what Question to ask.

Hope you are pain free as quickly as possible, nothing worse, bless, Mrs x
