"I'm weak and I love gingerbread lattes and greasy breakfasts. " Ah but at least you know. Embrace it if that makes you happy.

" Consume less calories. Do more exercise. Forget your fads and hacks they’re just looking for the easy path. " So you are saying your way is the hard path ? Totally agree , I generally prefer eating tasty food to being hungry.

"Yup I'm sure it's the best way for some people but everyone is different! In reality we all know what we need to do bit tasty, delicious things that are bad for us are just too damn tempting! " Just have less of them in smaller portions. Eating healthy does not mean you have to sacrifice all the good things in life.

" Consume less calories. Do more exercise. Forget your fads and hacks they’re just looking for the easy path. You don’t need to count anything or have a smart watch. You know what foods are bad and you know when you’re being lazy and using avoidance strategies with your exercise. It’s as simple as that. Looking forward to the excuses. " absolutely right....... am a grazer, but when i cut out the crisps, the chocolate etc and got back into a bit of walking, the weight fell off

"Some of the supercilious advice offered herein is brought to you from the University of the Bleedin' Obvious" One would like to believe that everyone knows how obvious it is, but many people are often manipulated by celebrities, influencers and nonsense they see on social media. 😅

"Hmmm. The hospital diet this past 3wks has consisted of not at lot of calories. Yet, here I am. The same weight as before. Never mind. " The problem alot of people have is that visible change takes time- it takes a while for a body to realise what is happening to it! Also the annoying thing about trying to lose fat is that you tend to lose it from the top (face/neck) down instead of from the areas you want to get rid of it (belly!!!).

"One of my biggest factors that led to me putting on weight was my mental health." Mental health definitely plays a part too. I have ADHD, anxiety and depression. I know all too well how hard it is to get going and lose weight. I wake up every day on a negative and have to force myself to do anything. But damn, it's absolutely worth it. There is a significant correlation between mental and physical health. One affects the other. Even just doing something small, like a half hour walk, can have a huge positive effect on the brain. Start off small, as small as you feel capable of doing. I struggle with very low dopamine levels, the "reward and motivation" chemical, so it's a neverending battle to get off my arse and do something beneficial. But after a short walk or a rave around the front room to my favourite tunes, it really does make a difference. Seeing those numbers go down, being able to walk further without getting knackered, the boosts to my mental health are invaluable. There is a thing I like to use: MEDS. Mindfulness Exercise Diet Sleep Each of those has an effect on the other and if you can do something for each, as often as you can, over time it'll have such a positive influence on your life. All four daily would be most beneficial, but sometimes only 3/4 is possible. And that's okay, because it's the effort that counts most.

I totally agree and doing what you've explained is exactly how I've lost over 1.5 stones since June. Yeah it's not huge amounts but it's all about consistency and avoiding quick fixes and those who say it's easy.

"Eat actual food and you can pretty much eat as much as you like and not think all that much about it. " You'll still gain weight if you eat in a surplus. The notion you can eat as much as you like on certain regimes is nonsense.

I just believe actual food has an infinitely higher result when it comes to satiation so you’re eating to fullness rather than excess. There’s an actual nutritional outcome and you have a body designed to deal with what you’re putting into it. I don’t believe exercise really makes all that much difference, unless you’re good to walk 3 hours to burn off a donut. I’d just say don’t eat the donut.

" Ah, that's good stuff. 😊 Yeah, it doesn't need to be huge amounts falling off every week. Whatever works for you! If you feel better about it, that's half the battle right there. Any progress is good progress. If I only lose a little, it's far better than nothing. Not to mention weight fluctuates anyhow. Water retention, waste, muscle growth. So long as it goes down over a longer timeframe, you're winning. 😄

Weight loss/gain is a simple matter of how much you burn compared to how much you consume. Fad diets appeal because they give people the impression that they can eat lots of a certain type of food and still lose weight.

"You can eat what you want really, just spit it out once you chewed it and then you would have had all the taste too. " My dad who has been the same weight since he was 18 advises people to make a large pot of stew and then eat 50% stew, 50% water at each meal. He has un overactive thyroid treated with radioactive iodine

"I do think that for people with no health conditions, mobility problems or issues around food and eating the general advice to put less in your mouth and move more is sound. I also think that most people know this. " It's what you put in your mouth that matters. You can eat cream cakes and still be under your calories for the day. You'll be thin but not healthy.

"Is it just me, or is this post weirdly confrontational?" Nope Weight watchers is well worth trying, my mate was chuffed to discover that using it to identify good foods he could actually eat more yet lose the weight that the hospital had told him he needed to
