Good city, plenty of independent outlets still, some great parks, amenities for families with kids and entertainment venues be that pubs or theatres..

Yes traffic can be a mare but that can be said for pretty much everywhere..

It's a small capital city so once you get in, everything is within walking distance. Loads of shops, plenty of food. You can hop on a train down to the bay area for a bit of scenery too.

Swansea

Loads. It's ok. I'm not a city person and only go to them for specific reasons. It has a well managed half marathon every year. It's also on the mainline from London so trains traveling west to Swansea run till late on weekday nights.

On the plus side, much of its grandeur was paid for by the exploitation of local people in various industries as opposed to the usual thing of empire and sl#ves - though it has its share of those too.

I lived there for 7 years. Just no. Physically it’s essential Croydon with an added Castle, socially it’s very disjointed and at odds with itself as a community and is provincial in its outlook.

Cardiff Castle is right in the midst of the City and you could go in there and explore/wander around. The grounds are quite big.

But Taff trail also accessible and Cardiff Bay not too far.

Also Cardiff Museum is right in the City Centre too, over by the Crown Court etc.

Pubs? No idea anymore as they’ve changed the City so much since I was there last, the pubs I frequented have gone 😭

Might be worth asking on the Wales forum?

As a proud Welsh man, I love Cardiff.

It is a vibrant city with lots to do at all times of day. But the thing that makes it special is that it hasn't lost it independent scene (clubs and shops) so it doesn't feel too overly modernised.

And we Welsh are well known for our kindness and hospitality.

Fully aware 😅

I felt threatened though. Surrounded by people passionate about it and I was "the other". I just kept my mouth shut until the train emptied.
