As we approach the festive season is it something you like, dislike or are indifferent to?

Is it the religious meaning or the fact that family are together or time off work (potentially not for all)

Or, is it, financial pressure, being around people you may not want to be or anything else

I love it.

I love the dark cold mornings, I love the dark cold evenings.

I love that there's fairy lights everywhere you go.

I love the Christmas lattes, and the food.

I don't make it a financial strain, Christmas to me isn't about spending loads of money.

So although Xmas is some sort of cultural aggregate of pagan winter festival, Christian celebration, and commercial economic stimulus, my main pleasure in the period is all the pretty lights playing against the dark and moody backdrops .

I have a thing where I literally (in my body) feel a huge corner turned on the shortest day(light) of the year. It literally feels, in my body, like the death of the old, and the birth of the new.

It's a poem, but a rational one determined by the seasons. Religious dogma irrelevant.

Another thing I enjoy about it is all the bullshit fibbery you can tell small kids about magickal creatures (flying reindeer, fat old blokes in chimneys breaking the speed of light to deliver to nearly billions of homes in a few hours, Jack Frost etc)...and their cute, innocent marvel at the nonsense.

I love the playfulness of that.

I like to see all my family from mid-Dec to early Jan, but particularly dislike big family gatherings - they feel too "forced".

So I opt out, and catch up in a lighter way (which is usually more rewarding) around the big days. Not on them.

I love Xmas day on my own, and have used it on many occasions over the last forty years to go out for a drive/ride....because it's one of the few times of the year that roads are empty and you can actually enjoy the driving experience .

The pressure to spend and engage in the Christmas markets, the visit to see the lights, purchasing the chocolates, cheeses and crackers, the films, music and the so called joy. It's all pushed onto us and anyone not engaged is called a Grinch. I'm glad that the children are older now and are not asking me to buy into the commercial side. They just want family time.

Is seeing the lights commercial? Is watching a film with your family?

For us it's being around friends/family plus time off and Christmas films etc. The atmosphere is nicer than the rest of Winter 🌲⛄

I adore it - that chance to reset and hibernate a little. The colder months easily lend themselves to lower energy days, to staying in the warmth and catching up with friends, family and loved ones. Or switching off from the world and just being.

It's also the little twinkling lights, the rich colours of the season. The increasingly creative festive food. Making wreaths and chains and baking and being.

I don't feel any financial pressure. At all. I hate "stuff" and refuse to give stuff for the sake of giving. Loved ones still receive presents If I don't want to be around someone, that's not changing because it's the festive season. Fuck that. If anything I'm more particular about who I see during this time of year.

I love it , it’s my favourite time of year by far.

Catching up with friends and family and doing a whole range of traditions and activities, the weather, Christmas music, Food, I wouldn’t normally eat, while camping at the top of a freezing cold mountain friends, Drinking whiskey or rum smoking a Cuban cigar I could go on it’s just packed full of good times. Also quite a spiritual time for me to reflect and reset.

Actually love christmas. Im not christian my family all take off time from work n just chill together. Alot of good food is cooked not neccessarily a traditional roast. in the upcoming days and alot of fridnds are invited over to chill drink n gamble/play cards.

Since my parents died- both around Christmas time- I can’t be arsed in all honesty.

I like the food and will make a nice dinner, but zero interest in a tree and decorations. If people want to put them up they are welcome to.

I've not really cared about it for the last 20 years. No particular reason, other than I can't be arsed lol.

Everyone else always makes more of a fuss, but if I'm invited to dinner, then I'll just enjoy the social and food aspect.

But it doesn't feel any different than meeting up for a cuppa and chat.

It's a break in the middle of the winter, more pagan for me, more about coming out of the winter and it's turning point.

The coldest days are yet to come in jan and Feb but I am half way through it.

I may treat myself to a new pair of boots.

Nothing Christian though.
