Probably one of the Proms at the Albert Hall in the 1960s.

Since then, the word 'concert' got hijacked by the rock/pop industry.

Still, anything is better than that ghastly word 'gig'

I went to his show with my Nan when I was 30 and she was 70. We were both too old for him so we were safe to go. Got dressed up though and wore a silver suit and wig. It was a terrific show.

Ah, they weren't good. Poppy middle of the road stuff that appealed to normies. I went because it was in freshers week and it was a party.

We didn't get any international bands worth spit in SA because of the cultural boycott for being the Bad Guys.

As far as my parents are concerned, it was going to see Fall Out Boy.

In reality my first gig was a band called HIM. Sadly in Villes less sober days so less of a great experience musically but still epically good, got me hooked on live music anyway.

However my genre of music is rock and heavy metal and my first rock gig was shinedown in cardiff with asking alexandria as a supporting act 3 years ago. Since then I have packed alot of gigs into my life and now live for them.

Been to download festival 2 years in a row and booked to go next year too. Just love my music

Rush, as a 17 year old I had a very good introduction to what a great live act are like… and also what a shit live act are like too, the support act (Primus) sounded like someone throwing instruments down a lift shaft

"Royal Philharmonic when they played at a cinema in Romford in the 70s. Music by Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven.

Loved it. "

I was beginning to think I was the only one who knew where 'concerts' got their name from!

"Swan Lake, Liverpool Empire 1968-ish. School trip!"

Ooh. Another one, but isn't that technically a ballet unless they only had the tunes and not the dancing?

Technically correct but there was a shortish intro by the pit orchestra. I can't remember what they played. We were right in the gods and could barely see a thing.

I remember going to that one.

I don't remember any of the music because I, as well as many others, fell asleep a number of times during the performance!

First real heavy band I saw was Black Sabbath supported by Budgie at the old Liverpool Stadium 1972-ish. It usually held boxing/wresting contests, so the was a boxing ring in the middle.
