For me it’s Drive by The Cars as it reminds me of someone who I loved in the past but lost due to my own stupidity. It was her favourite song.

But generally speaking I always find Annie’s Song by John Denver sad. It just has beautiful full rich lyrics and it’s more striking as it was actually written about his wife at the time. Maybe it’s more poignant now for me as he is no longer around having passed away at a relatively young age (infact the same age as me now) under tragic circumstances. I generally find him to be a very underrated artist/song writer anyway.

It's often what a song is associated with that makes me cry/sad.

I have a couple of songs played at my family members funerals that still make me really sad when I hear them.

One is called let the heartache begin, my dad loved it and I had it played at his funeral. It's quite an old song though, so I don't routinely hear it.

Lana Del Rey- Video games.

Having a good blub now, just thinking about that song simply destroys me.

It was a big hit around the time my Great Aunt Iris died, no idea how that tune became linked to her but it's hard wired now, whenever I hear it nothing else matters I just have to stop whatever I'm doing and take a moment. It never fails to bring a tear to my eye and occasionally like now just leaves me a sobbing wreck.

Thankyou 💔😢

George Michael did a great version of this too, and equally heartbreaking.

Some amazing songs have already been mentioned, one that would definitely have made my list too — but here’s a few others to add to the play list…

Tears in your hand - Tori Amos

Me & a Gun - tori Amos

Woman in Chains - Tears for Fears

Sacrifice - by Elton John but sung by Sinead O’Connor on the Two Rooms album.

The last Day of Our Acquaintance- Sinaed O’Connor

She - Elvis Costello

I’ll leave it here 😢

"Górecki's Symphony No. 3 (Symphony of Sorrowful Songs) It’s a really does make you cry … 😢it’s beautiful and incredibly emotional "

This one for me too.

But also Neil Young - Philadelphia. It’s a very sad song in itself, but sung at the end of that film I’m streaming with tears.
