There’ve been so many fun and insightful replies here—some are things we all know but still worth repeating, haha!

From my short time here, these are my top three takeaways:

- The emotional adjustment to what’s considered normal behaviour here is tough.

Some things, like getting left on read, become easier to accept over time. But others, like being blocked after sending a polite message, are harder to wrap your head around. In most other settings, being blocked feels like a sign you’ve done something terribly wrong, but here it’s often just about an incompatibility they didn’t mention in their profile. It’s a shift I’m still getting used to.

- As a single guy, it feels like every interaction starts at the bottom of a steep mountain.

The sheer number of poorly behaved men/women, timewasters, and liars has left many people on here quick to judge. This means sincerity is more easily undermined by preconceptions and misunderstandings amplified, understandably patience is a precious commodity on here, which is unfortunate as its so damaging in the early trust building stage.

In person, there are similar challenges, but strong social skills can help break through barriers, putting people at ease, and showing sincerity. Unfortunately, so much of that nonverbal communication gets lost in text. It feels like trying to climb a mountain without the tools you’d usually rely on. No wonder some guys prefer the club scene— but to do that regularly takes a lot of cash.

- Lastly, prolonging the ‘fantasy’ through online chat is a lot more common than I expected.

It’s almost like the chase itself is more engaging than actually experiencing the fantasy. I initially thought most people would be eager to meet up after a few good exchanges—assuming they vibed well—to build on their connection in person. And while that’s definitely what some people are looking for, I’ve realized there’s also a big group that seems content just chatting and keeping things in the realm of fantasy, rather than bringing those shared ideas to life.

It’s been a learning curve, but I’m trying to keep an open mind and embrace the ups and downs. At the end of the day, I think this space has a lot to offer if you approach it with the right mindset. Thanks for reading, and feel free to continue sharing your own takeaways!
