New AI road cameras

A sequence of tall yellow poles carrying cameras high up has appeared in the last couple of days near Farningham in Kent.

These are said to use AI so that, as well as speeding, they will analyse seat belt and phone usage.

As this is on the way to Silverleigh and Eureka for drivers coming from the M25, it could have an impact on anyone who has got his cock out and fiddling with it in the anticipation of some'action', or any other front seat hanky panky going on.

Presumably the sequence of cameras is in order to prove continuity of the offence.

Anyone seen similar elsewhere?

As long as they have the data, it's reasonable to assume that AI could be used to interpret input from other cameras too.

See no issue with them, police can already use ANPR cameras to check insurance and mot details for cars if required from the numberplate.

These cameras have been around where I am for a while now. They don't seem to concern many drivers who still chat away on phones oblivious to them.

If someone is driving with no seatbelt, with phone in hand at speed then tbh their individual 'privacy' is secondary to the rights of others using the road or pavement..

We have them local and they have cut down on collisions..

My understanding if the AI can't make judgment over other traffic offences but can flag the imagery of suspected offences for analysis by a human. So if you're quite clearly breaking the law you maybe in for a summons.
