I want to be 100 years old or abit more, the reason I am saying hundred is because I have read a long time ago that you get as old as you have decided to be, so those who want to be 100 will be 100 years old. I dont know if it is true, it was just something that I read.

It was a research that they had analysed peoples attitude to their own lifespan, that those who had a determined age, they got to that age too.

The same theory was that those people who believed they would get sea sick would be it compared to those who say they can manage anything, those always make it.

What is your view about it and those theories, how old do you want to live to?

I don't believe those theories to be true and I would only want to live to a ripe old age if I were healthy and die in my sleep.

This illness dementia is becoming more and more common have they pinpointed what the main cause is yet ,I've had two people die of this .

I don't know. I find the idea of aging difficult - I don't want the day to come when I can't do the things I like to do now, but maybe it's not as stark as that and you just adjust and find new things to enjoy, or enjoy the same things differently.

I also like my life and I'd happily live as long as possible so long as I was fit, happy and healthy. Being old, lonely and frail has no appeal.

Hey, I am not a pensioner until 67, and at this stage not old and decrepit - though I would love a mobility scooter (nothing like running down people in B&Q on one of those), but may have to settle for an electric bike to replace my mountain bike. No swollen ankles here, but my knees click at times (but maybe that was too much road running in my younger days).

As long as I have a sound body and mind then I'll keep annoying the kids and spending their inheritance. However, as someone who has seen 3 generations of dementia I have and agreement with someone that if ever I succumb to that awful disease then I want a one-way ticket to Dignitas.

The "sound body" is a relative term as we age but so long as I can live without being a burden then I'll find a way of wasting the kids money.

At the end of day, as long as they can prop me up in the nursing home to watch the footy, I'll still have quality of life - doubly incontinent or not. If the eyesight goes, I'd have to reassess but I'm currently prepared to go as long as I can.

The average life expectancy of a woman with my illness is 67 years; I have never planned to live past 40, but as I start to feel better in life, 67 feels way too young.

Depends on health don’t want to be in a home or anything.

Grandparents died at 82, 94, 95, 99 so decent ages Gt Nanna 103 so good genes both parents mid 70s both healthy.

My liver will have picked in by the time I’m in my 70s haha

I would prefer to live past Mrs Misfit or us go together. Not because it's a competition, because I'd never want her to have the pain of losing me. When my Dad died my Mum had to go on without him and now 25 years later she still does and that sucks. She misses him every day. I don't want Mrs Misfit to have to go through that. As much as it would be horrible for me, I'd rather me than her. So that's the first stipulation.

In genral I'm like Monty Pythons Black Knight. I have no intention on throwing in the towel and intend to live a long life. Which has also kicked me into looking after myself a bit better these days to hopefully ensure I can enjoy old age in better health and mobility. However in general I rather exist in poorer health than not at all. I'm no stranger to hardship and would still want to exist and be able to think and experience in a failing body, even on pain than just be dead. So it's not even an issue of quality of life (to a certain extent) because I'm here for the long run because death looks like the ultimate boredom and the world is so beautiful.

Funny topic but interesting. I never thought about it at all until one time I dozed off on the couch after shift work 20 odd years ago and I had a peculiar dream. In this dream I remember sitting by the fireside in a cottage and I was alone. I looked about the walls and could see all the pictures of those I knew and loved who had gone before me. I smiled and rested back in the armchair as the fire went out and I closed my eyes. I felt life slip away and it was effortless. I was 84.

I woke up and felt strangely calm, went into the kitchen and made tea. I sat with my mother and told her. She wasn't fussed but calm and collected.

"So if you know your time, then fill it wisely." She said no more, but I resolved to do exactly that and I've lived every day with a different perspective. In that moment it crystallised that life is finite and no reverse gear. I stopped worrying. I had a plan. I continue that plan to this day. I am the youngest of my family and all but 2 have passed on.

I fear nothing but if I don't see 84 I will feel cheated! So in the meantime I'll enjoy it.

mother died aged 82 but in reality she died years before with dimentia,

step father died aged 84 with parkinsons an awful illness on someone who was so active, would happily go in my sleep before falling foul to a debillitating illness
