Your persona

Is your online persona different to your off line one?

Do you come across as

Moody

Happy

Critical

Needy

Antagonistic

Kind and caring

Or anything else

I have met a few people who are different to the persons they portray on here or anywhere else.

May come across as confident here but not so much when meeting especially when in groups

I like to think I’m consistent. A consistent twat but at least it’s consistency

People are multifaceted.

What you see/know of someone (and your confirmation biases) will be different to another person.

I don't think too much about how I come across on here - I don't know how I do. I do know it's just a snapshot of that particular moment in time.

I'm much the same.

I don't have the energy for an act.

Some days happy, bouncy excitable, some days far from it.

I don't overthink what I say here or filter my thoughts in the way I sometimes might in the 'real world' however my face probably gives me away there anyway!

It mostly depends on the group dynamic I've walked into.

If I can sense there's no point giving them "full Nick" because they either won't get it, or it makes them uncomfortable, I'll stick with standard pleasantries.

If there's a bit more depth to the crowd, I'll let more of me out.

Online I can deliberately find convenient "Nick-shaped" spaces, so people see more Nick online than everyday life, because the canvas is there to paint Nick on.

For example - there are 30, 50, 100 maybe threads going. It takes a few minutes to find some that you like, and join in with ease (and also exit with ease)

How long would it take to find 30, 50, 100 "in the flesh" physical groups of people, introduce yourself, discover whether the group suits you, and politely extricate yourself from the host/hostess's clutches if it was a bit of a "dud" for your personality type?

So online is a quicker way of being more Nick.

Nick is the same Nick - but there's more of my preferred version of him that I can let out online than in the flesh.

However, when I'm with a group of people that I can really connect with in the flesh, that's far more rewarding than online.

But it's once or twice every few years that that level happens, whereas online is a few times every week.

I'm EXACTLY the same. I don’t leave the house without wearing a posh frock, lingerie and heels. Makes work a little tricky, though. Especially the digging and working up ladders.

I can't be anything else but myself.

I usually avoid confrontation both here and IRL but sometimes ignorance and stupidity has to be challenged.

In general I enjoy a laugh and taking the piss but am more than comfortable telling the emperor he is naked when everyone else is admiring his new clothes.

In my time on fab I have met a couple of people who are very different online than they are in person but I've met many more who are extremely different in their public and private online personas.

The characters they play in the forum bear little or no resemblance to the one sending private messages.

I've no idea.. that's for others to tell me..to be honest I don't think a lot get my humour on line..where as if I met someone in person and told them I only have a bath once a month with a smile on my face.. they'd know for sure I was jesting.. they'd also be able to smell me as well,😹

Not the North West...

I haven't the energy to fake being someone else.

A lot of the times people seem to think I'm taking the piss and I'm really not.

Though there are parts of me only people that have met me/know me will know.

I think I’m the same mix of blunt ‘call a spade a spade’ and charming naivety with a hint of sauciness in reality as I am here. But maybe ask those who’ve met me, they’re probably better placed to answer

Like a bouncy dog I suppose, controlled by a cat on top of my back with a lead around my neck. Quiet and observational, until stirred. (shut up!)

Was worse when I was much younger.

I don't think being more confident online to real life is a different persona as such. People have different strengths in different situations.

I think many of us are more forthright about our sexual preferences here online compared to real life. Doesn't make it a persona I don't think. Just we're more confident that we won't get judged as harshly here.

Asking people to self assess will hardly ever lead to an objective answer.

I have liaised with some who have posted on this thread and I would just not agree with what they have said.
