Lack of confidence, or the desire to look more like someone else. Social media is likely a problem.

There seems to be a popular app around at the moment that some girls seems to be using to edit their pictures and it actually makes them look all the same lol

Can be bit of an ask or off putting I'm sure but I always ask for a video chat now. But it also seems you can filter video chats so cant always win

Twice I’ve met up with women that did not look like their photo. They weren’t even photo shopped. They’d used a different woman’s pic 🙄 first one I still liked her so we went back to mine for a play. Didn’t fuck her. Dropped her back, never saw her again. Second one she said she couldn’t use real pics as her ex husband had spies. We went for a drink. Nothing happened, I didn’t see her again. She did send me a pic of her real self after though. Should have done that in the beginning.

Nowadays, I will not meet for a social unless we’ve exchanged several face pics.

One time, I was free so I travelled to see her. It took me an hour.

I got there and an older, chubby woman answered the door. She wasn't pretty and looked nothing like her. I was confused.

She asked if I wanted to sit down and so on. She brought me a cup of tea, cakes and all sorts. She was lovely and I felt incredibly guilty.

She made the move, and out of guilt I took one for the team. I felt sad that I was tricked, but happy that I'd made someone very happy.

Yep, plenty of times, particularly when I was dating. One guy looked so nothing like his photos that I passed by him multiple times in a pub before we both realised we are looking for each other. Needless to say, that was just one polite drink and nothing else.

It happens regularly on the swinging scene, people using old photos, filters etc. That's why I prefer to meet in a club.

Though I think lying about height is also a form of catfishing. I have lost count of the times I’ve been on dates or socials and let someone who is 5’10 but they are shorter than me

I wasn't really catfished, but a few years ago on another app I was chatting to a TV/CD from my area. She had very glossy, heavily-filtered pics on her bio and was demanding clear face pics off me.

After she (rudely) rejected the first one I sent for not being clear enough, I decided to point out to her that her photos were similarly unclear due to the angles and heavy filtering, and I would not be sending anymore of mine.... and if she didn't like it, she was free to block me if she wanted, at which point she tried to come across all friendly again, which was weird to me so I blocked her instead.

Anyway fast forward a few years, I randomly find her account on here - with the very same filtered pictures she was using as bio pics in the other app.

Upload date of those pics = 2012!

Turns out what I thought was a gloss filter, is just a side effect caused by the low resolution of phone cameras back in 2012 😂

Yes. On 2 occasions (on my couples account with my wife).

First one... it was over pretty fast.

Second one was a reverse catfish and turned out brilliant. Happened to be a couple who I both knew in passing through work going all the way back to college and school. Had run in the same circles and knew the same people bit never really talked to each other than a "alright" when passing each other.

But they where new to fab (at the time), shy and the photo they sent of themselves looked nothing like them (wasn't a good photo is all I'll say.

They'd not recognised me other than something looked familiar (it had been a few years and they didn't know my wife).

Within several mins of meeting it turned into "I know you from somewhere".

Years later we are all close freinds and swinging partners in crime. We completely ruined them though. They're anything but shy now.

So not all catfishes (though I know this one wasn't done on purpose) are bad. Sometimes people just don't take a good.photo.

There have been a couple of times when I've been deceived into initial chat, but I have figured it out before going as far as meeting.

The reverse situation, where someone might assume that I'm something that I'm not, I do everything I can to prevent. I'm perfectly open about putting up face pics on my public gallery here, including some that are fresh out of the shower in the morning with zero makeup and wet hair. Some where I haven't even shaved. Also my profile text says everything about my gender, my trans status, and that I have had no operations or hormone treatment. Anyone choosing to meet me, what they see in my profile is what they will find in real life.
