Ladies how do you feel when you're walking up a street or something and guys in cars slow down behind you - checking you out.

Do you like it or does it annoy you?

I've had guys slow down and then say in a friendly voice: 'hey you look great hun' or something and i'm totally fine with that... I like that.

But then I get the odd one who slows down, trails me for ages, doesn't say anything - just keeps learing over the rim of his specs - probably frantically masturbating.

A woman I don't know complimenting my shoes or something, I don't mind that.

Strange men giving compliments are almost always immediately chucked into the creep pile.

What if a TV in a shop complimented your lipstick or something? I get women doing that to me a lot... But I don't mind it at all. It all depends on how it's said/motives etc. If they're just being friendly I like it.

I guess that's where the distinction comes in really.

Does it seem like a friendly comment or someone trying to get in your pants.

And intentions doesn't always define interpretation.

Not had it for a while but this year ive had a fair few creepy guys in cars- and on foot following me. Not because I'm hot but because I'm a women out late in the dark on her own. Sadly I can wear my headphones now until I'm at the bus stop because I don't know what foolishness the creep brigade are up to. On the other foot I've had a few men that walk into the road to pass me so they are not "too close" at night so i feel safe. Its sad men feel they have to do this because of the wrong-uns out there but I appreciate their effort.

I would really like to think that creepy shit like this didn't happen anymore.

Years ago when I was in my early 20,s even younger it would happen all the time and even a taxi ride home on your own would come with inappropriate comments.

I would like to think that most men would realise how creepy and scary this could be for women.

My overriding feeling when this happens is "I hope they just fucking leave me alone".

I have been offered random lifts from taxi drivers late at night a few times whilst dressed femme. I try to refuse without speaking, because as soon as they hear the male voice it could go left.

One cabbie once said he didn't care, I still refused but thanked him for the offer. I'm not about to get into any random guys car.

Two responses to the same question. Obviously the reason misogynistic behaviour continues is because other men don't challenge it. Let's make a running joke of #notallmen. The reality is actually #notallwomen.

Surprising at this may be, different people like different things. Some men think this behaviour is creepy and wrong -as do some women. Some men think it's acceptable - as do some women. The sinner we acknowledge these facts the quicker we will be able to get to solutions.

I don't get a lot of the comments like this one...

I mean... Not everyone has 'skype' or can be bothered with an 'app' you know what I mean? Just a few years ago (before the 'net') people had to do such things to show someone they were interested in them, and for some people (like myself and some others here) - we enjoy the attention (if it's done in a nice way).

Not everyone is weirdos and murderers, and again... I've met far more weird folk online than anywhere else. Well... Maybe the so called church.

It's odd how a lot of the people on here claim they hate: 'attention' but have profiles with numerous photos with all with their bits hanging out for everyone on fab to look at (and there's a fair few strange folk around and a gathering of perverts (the wrong kind of attention they claim they want to avoid!). These people also have the place they live on their profiles, what clubs they go to, their friends and contacts...

Anyway; I've met great friends over the years by chatting to people in public and them chatting to me. - Male and female... In fact I ONLY meet people that way/the proper way (without sending them a message on a stupid app where I could be talking to anyone).

But the ones saying they hate attention from pervy sorts are the ones with all their bits dangling about in numerous pics on their profiles on here.

I'd rather just be 'clothed' and out a walk with a guy admiring me in a car tbh... Than strangers knowing my home-town, my friends, what clubs I go to (etc) and wanking over my photos.

The 'car dude' attention is far more reasonable.

It's a shame people are so sensitive and afraid for no reason. And not only that but full of contradiction - clueless to where real danger lurks.

I mean... A car slows down, a guy/gal looks over at something he/she is admiring (you) and makes it known...

Big deal.

You can either take them up on the compliment or not, but that's how normal people have communicated since time began and how normal people always will communicate. ...(Maybe minus the car).

'That' sort of attention? - It sounds like you assume that every person who drives a car and pays someone a compliment from it is a 'bad person'?

I've always found meeting people offline is safer and the: 'attention' on sex websites (from cheats/serial wankers/pervy sorts etc) to be far more 'unwanted' for ladies tbh.

Yeah, not everyone is an axe-murderer lol. Typically it's just a guy out and about chancing his luck and/or looking to connect with a real human being with real human contact instead of some AI app-speaking antisocial freak. - He should be applauded at least for that.

It's a sad day when someone can't approach someone on a street to say: 'hi' but the other person think's they're a weirdo who can: 'get to fuck' (as one poster here said), whilst shitting bricks over fk all.

May I be so bold as to simplify this as much as I can.

We can debate the moral and social dichotomy of whether public displays of complimenting a stranger is acceptable or not, until the proverbial cows come home. Essentially, it comes down to if you find the person who’s complimented you attractive or not.

Attractive people can be creepy and weird as well as anyone else. I find a compliment more flattering from a person I find attractive, and a compliment more weird from someone I don’t.

Let’s be honest, this isn’t the answer people want to hear or admit, but I’d say it’s a pretty accurate summarisation.

If someone can't take a compliment from another human being (stranger or not); they have issues... And that's fact not opinion. - There is something wrong with them.

It's also bizarre to see a compliment as being 'weird' from someone you don't find attractive but not if you find them attractive... What does looks have to with that???

I dunno if it's been a full-moon every night for the past few years, but the real weirdos these days seem to be the ones who don't realize they are.

I think OP was missing the point slightly in this thread.

If a car starts driving slowly up behind you, especially late at night, the best case scenario is that it's someone having a perv.

There's only a few possibilities for why someone is doing this and almost none of them are good. It can feel extremely threatening.
