If the age of consent is 16 why can you not buy sex toys until 18?

Was just a question i thought about last night after confessing to using a carrot/ body spray can when i was discovering my own sexuality growing up.

Least if the option was there for young experimental/curious girls to use toys would it mean they are less likely to experiment with cock?

I asked this (or a similar thing) years ago but forgot what i called the thread.

Cocks are free. Carrots are cheap. Deoderants are kind of essential items you'd have lying around the house (you'd hope anyway!)

16 year olds have less disposable income as they're spending all their hard earned dosh on hooped earrings, hairspray and primani leggings.

Guess' it's just economically cheaper to use one of the above objects (or a cucmber - you forgot that one!) than buy one.

Although they could always just go shoplifting in Ann Summers of course!

I can see where your coming from cute but then why can't they vote at 16, get married etc. And as obi pointed out I think there's a level of maturity seeing as a high percentage would spend money on materialistic things clothes/ shoes etc.

I didn't buy my first sex toy untill I was 17 it was from adult internet catalogue.

I think it should be at 18 as some of the things they sell in the shops could scar them for life. I know some of the things in the shops have made me stop and think wtf at the age of 26

Adults are 18 in law.

I'd say the age is there to spare manufacturers and sellers any legal recriminations.

Beats me that people can marry , run homes , have sex and raise children at 16 but can't do a lot of things until they are 18.

I didn't realise you couldn't buy sex toys until you were 18. Blimey!

I can't see why not really it isn't as if they're harmful and you can buy fags at 16 can't you? I'd rather my kids were on the end of a sex toy than on the end of a fag really......hmm I could have phrased THAT better!

They changed the age to buy any smoking related stuff to 18 a few years back now

Most sixteen year olds are very capable, lots of them are going to college and working evenings and weekends, working full time and have apprenticeships or as has been pointed out are in the armed forces. My son was an apprentice chef at sixteen and could handle a food mixer with the best of them.
