Watford

Another new month dawns, so a fresh thread for the football followers.

Who's off where over the weekend ? I know there's a few off to F.A. Cup 1st Round games. To say I have a 'full on' week is an understatement, mostly centred around that most unpredictable of divisions, namely the Championship.

On face of it, I should see a big away win this afternoon, 23rd v. 1st - QPR v. Sunderland is chosen destination today (taking advantage of block of so called restricted view seats in corner next to away end, priced at £22).

As for rest of week...Sun, Millwall v. Burnley. Mon, Brentford B v. Millwall U21 (Staines, 1pm), Fulham v. Brentford in evening, where I shall be raising a glass to a FFC supporting friend who passed away yesterday. Tue, QPR v. Middlesbrough. Weds, Millwall v. Leeds. Fri, Watford v. Oxford. Next Sat, Orient v. Blackpool.

Anyway, wherever you're off to, safe trip, enjoy your game.

First 0-0 of the season and a poor game. Game hinged on a dreadful challenge by Bellingham on Morrison. Morrison displayed more rolls than you'd get in a bakers at 7 am, but it was a red all day long. QPR couldn't finish a Mars bar, and after the sending off Sunderland showed no ambition other than not getting beaten. Second time I've seen them this season, & I fail to believe they're the best team in the division.

Latest from the "Anyone Can Beat Anyone" League....

MUCH more enjoyable game at The Den. Burnley had better of first half hour or so, but Millwall had couple of good chances near end of first half. Then took lead early in second with superb header from Jake Cooper, and deservedly held on as Burnley ran out of ideas

"I’m still buzzing at the fact we beat Arsenal yesterday "

Don't think many would have predicted both City & Arsenal getting beat yesterday - and Liverpool only just about managed a win. Big result for Spurs today as well. Could do with the Prem being a bit more open this year.

Am at TWO games tomorrow, Brentford B v. Millwall U21 at Staines at lunchtime, then Fulham v. Brentford in evening.

As Fergie said "Football, bloody hell !"

AMAZING finish at The Cottage. 91 minutes of frustration, thinking "too many passes, somebody be more direct and have a bloody shot".....and Harry Wilson gambles and flicks a leg out ! My seat at Fulham is in the Hammersmith End, diagonally opposite The Cottage. And then when he heads the winner, well...utter pandemonium - not to mention justice, 26 attempts on goal for Fulham to Brentford's five.

But Brentford B did get their win over Millwall U21 at Staines at lunchtime (3-1). Millwall have won their section of the Professional Development League in last two years, but some of that age group have moved on, and they stuck in three 1st XI players coming back from injury today, so looked a little disjointed.

Anyway, back to Shithouse Road tomorrow evening, QPR v. Middlesbrough (and The Den on Weds, Millwall v. Leeds).

"Off to Braintree tomorrow night to see WHU u21s in the new National League Cup. "

Strikes me as an odd competition. National League teams have a 46-match league programme, the F.A. Trophy, the F.A. Cup, and it's compulsory for them to enter their County Senior Cup (if they don't they can't play in the F.A. Competitions). Be interesting to see how it develops, what gates are etc.

I noticed a few clubs declined the offer to enter - Hartlepool and York were very quick to do so, citing it was an unnecessary impingement on their limited squads. Gates in the opening fixtures were very low. I suspect this competition will be a one-season wonder. I’m only going as I haven’t seen any WHU team play at Braintree.

Football to me is overpriced. Work sometimes at both Cardiff City and Swansea City also internationals too and have to be honest don't see how fans can afford to go to games week in week out.

Also amount of banners from kids asking for shirts/ photos etc and being ignored by players is disgusting not as if their wearing plaing shirt again is it

It's like anything in life you enjoy, if you want to go, you'll find/put aside the money.

The block where I sit on the occasions I go to QPR is at the end of one stand, adjacent to the away end. They count it as a restricted view but I don't think so, and tickets are priced at £22

You missed the easiest away win you would have seen all season.

0-2 & cruising at HT, QPR somehow bundled one back with twenty mins to go, but there was no way they would have deserved anything from the game. It was by far & away the worst display I've seen from any team so far this season. They can't defend, can't attack, can't create, and too many players "don't do the basics". They'll be relegated by Easter.

Bloody hell, I LOVE the unpredictability and clash of styles that ONLY the Championship serves up.

Superb evening's entertainment at The Den. Leeds were best footballing team I've seen so far in the division this season, looked threatening every time they went forward, created (& wasted) plenty of chances, but by Christ, NOBODY digs & battles like Millwall do.

Don't quite know how I'll cope tomorrow, have an evening off !!! Then it's the one that really matters on Friday evening, Watford v. Oxford, and across town to Orient v. Blackpool on Saturday.

I note poor old Orient have been stitched up AGAIN due to the International break. They were due to be at home to Mansfield on Sat week (another game I had pencilled in, though hadn't bought a ticket for), but it's been called off as Mansfield have call-ups. Orient also had Saturday home matches in Sept & Oct moved due to fucking Internationals. They said in a recent programme this has cost around £150,000 in depleted revenue - lower gates midweek, for one rearranged game ticket prices cut to a tenner, food & drink sales down, hospitality packages harder to sell for midweek games....it all adds up, so on that basis it's probably another seventy grand down the shitter for Orient.

NO game below the Championship should be called off because of International matches, and if clubs at that level choose to sign (or take on loan) foreign players instead of trying to develop English youngsters, then tough shit, they should play with what they have available. Don't see why other clubs - and just as importantly their fans - should be constantly inconvenienced.

I'm now waiting to see if Wycombe v Huddersfield falls as well. The saving grace for Saturday week is it's the F.A. Trophy 2nd Round, and the likes of Slough, Chesham etc, have home ties, so I'll find something.

Travelling

As a QPR fan this season has been rancid after how positive last season ended. All the new signings don’t look up for a fight and are struggling to adapt to the championship. Too many injuries that we can’t cope with and key players coming in for a game then being injured for five. If we are more than ten points adrift by January we’re done for. I was at Sunderland, should’ve won that game! Going Leeds this weekend and am scared of the potential drubbing and spending more hard earned money to watch shit 😱

Saw both your home games this week, and I can't see how you're going to stay up on current form. You did play reasonably well against Sunderland but you've no quality up front, and we're absolutely abysmal last night, I don't feel Middlesbrough particularly stretched themselves either

Middlesbrough were in seconds gear, didn’t break a sweat. Doak was running Hevverton whenever he wanted!

Brilliant to see where everyone's off to over the next week or so. Safe/enjoyable trips to you all.

Back to Vicarage Road this evening. Watford have won five & drawn one of six home League games so far this season (only Coventry have taken a point), so I'm hoping that will continue against Oxford tonight. Main thing is the football has been decent to watch so far.

Across town for Orient v. Blackpool tomorrow, then everything grinds to a halt for bloody Internationals, so it'll be a few non-league games next week. Hemel Hempstead are home to Weston-S-M in National League South on Monday, there are few games to choose from on Tues, and I'll find something in F.A Trophy 2nd Round on Sat week.

Well, that was a little tighter than it needed to be.

First half was a very hard 45 mins to watch, but Watford dominant after the break. Problem is, you can never be sure when it's only 1-0. Still, six wins & one draw from seven home league games, that's what you pay your season ticket money for, will do very nicely. Just need to pick up a few points away from home and see what happens from there.

Anyway, off to Orient v. Blackpool tomorrow afternoon, safe travels to everyone 2moz xx

Best showing I've seen from Orient this season, 3-0 won over Blackpool. Gate of over eight & half thousand, inc 900 from Blackpool.

Always good to see a game at Brisbane Road at this time of the year, big military history. 41 officials & players joined up on the outbreak in August 1914, 17th Middx. Battalion and served at The Somme. Remarkably only three didn't return.

Anybody found anything from today's butchered fixture list ? I note Oldham are home to Tamworth so assume heavenNhell heading there.

My 'first choice' today would have been Orient v. Mansfield, that fell to call ups, as did Wycombe v. Huddersfield. I then thought about Bromley v. Carlisle, been there many times at non league level, but would have been nice to get a league visit in - but it's totally sold out, plenty of Palace fans go there as their 'second team' apparently.

So the F.A. Trophy 2nd Round it is - Slough v. Chatham being selected match

I've seen a few "get of jail free" cards played down the years....

Chatham took lead after around 20 mins. They were down to ten men midway through second half which saw their No. 11 red carded for throwing punches in a stupendous ruck (including a couple on one his own teammates). Slough had better of ball in second half, but didn't look capable of doing much with it. They were also down to ten for closing stages after a defender held a forward to stop him going through.

Seven mins stoppage time, and yep, you guessed it, Slough pinch an equaliser....and then go on to win 4-2 on pens.

The joy of a few local non league clubs having 3G pitches meant I got to a couple of games midweek.

Tues, Uxbridge v Harefield in Middlesex Senior Cup. 1-1, 4-5 on pens, though over 90 mins Harefield were the better/more interested team, so justice done in the penalty shoot out.

Weds, Southall v. Met Police (Southall share at Burnham). Shockingly bad game somehow finished 1-2 to MP. Went ahead midway through second half with only decent move of the match, then pinched a second as game moved into stoppage time. Southall got consolation with last kick of game. If ever a game was not worthy of yielding three goals, this was it.

Fulham v. Wolves on Sat. Couple of Under 21 games early in week, Watford v. Everton at Kings Langley on Mon evening in the PL2 Cup and Brentford 'B' v. Peterborough U21 in the Professional Development League at Staines, 1pm on Tues. Then it's Watford v. Bristol City on Tues evening....so nice busy week as usual !

Supposed to be warmer on Sat, but with wind & rain accompanying. Hopefully be very few games off. Safe trips to everyone travelling over weekend, enjoy your games.

They get harder every year. Swear most of our lot will be stuck at the bottom one season, unable to make it. There is a single lift - not ideal for getting circa 1000 old gits up that high. (The youngsters can use the stairs!)

Superb win for Oldham. You should fancy your chances at Orient on Saturday, they can't score goals.

Meanwhile....

1pm at Staines - Brentford 'B' 2 Peterborough U21 1. Very entertaining 90 mins, though scoreline flattered Peterborough. If Brentford had put a few more of the good chances they wasted away it would have been four or five.

Then at 7.45.....Watford 1 Bristol City 0. Very scrappy first half, but much improved in second. Great strike by Andrews to win it, superb pass from Chekvetadze. Could do with him picking up a knock over Christmas, Watford don't need anyone nicking him in January. 22pts out of 24 from eight home League games so far at The Vic - that's what you shell out season ticket money for.

That's me done until Saturday, when I have a rather busy day lined up. But more of that at the weekend.

So FA cup second round trip to Orient tomorrow for the tics .up again former player and manage Ritchie wellens who's team have struggled of late .chance for an upset if we go for it good test for us as we hit form .bit of a friendly rivalry stretching back to both clubs financial troubles and supporters grouping together to oust bad owners in the past .1200 tickets sold out so the blue and white army should be in good voice .1-3 win for tics owtb bawa otid coyb .

Watford

Cracking little club are Orient, great to see them recovered from nearly going out of business a few years ago. But they've no goalscorers this season and are struggling. Safe trip.

IF all goes to plan tomorrow I'm aiming to go to THREE games (yes, you did read that correctly). Watford v. QPR is one of the 12.30 kick-offs. As long as that don't overrun too much, I'm looking to get to Northwood at 3pm. I've also got a ticket for the Wimbledon-Dagenham Cup tie which is at 7.15. (That'll take me to 75 games so far this season).

And there's also the bonus of a new series of 'The Big Match Revisited' on ITV4 at 10.30 tomorrow morning, covering 1984-85.

hopefully a good game and we give good account of ourselves whatever the result cup run would be nice but priority is winning this league don't want to be in the lottery of the playoffs again

Watford

Orient having a bit of a struggle this year, glad to see them get a bit of luck.

Not firing on all cylinders today, so my plan to go to multiple games was sidelined. Watford v. QPR never really looked like being a goalless draw though it had its moments. Thankfully Rangers' finishing was shocking. Nine home games for Watford so far, seven wins, two draws - not knocking that !

Anyway, I'll open up a December football thread, and when I say I have a full week.....
