We are keen runners and today we both ran a lovely 5 mile trail route with our dog. Running through woodland, forestry tracks and up onto a mountain. Super muddy and exhilarating. It was fantastic!

What runs are you doing at the moment? What are your goals that you're working towards? What events are you training for?

This thread doesn't need to be just about running, let us know what sports you enjoy as it may be something others have always wanted to experience.

Best of luck with this week's training

Sort of written off this year but a small goal is to hit a 1000 cycling miles before the end of the year I need roughly just short of 16 miles a day.

Next year to start doing some runs again and hopefully do a triathlon would like to do a half ironman at some point in the next year or two

Sounds like a perfect run, trails pavements!

I'm just getting back into my running, current goal is just Parkrun, but I'd love to get another 50M under my belt, or even another 100, before I hang up my running shoes

Keep us posted on your 1000M cycling target - best of luck!

We used to try to achieve 1000M running miles over the year. Picking that back up next year will be our mini goal.

A tri is a fantastic goal to have. have you done one before?

C is a very active football referee with an eye on promotion in December so that's taking up all the time at the moment.

Next year D is doing the Moonwalk in London and is then doing Three Peaks in 24 hours for charity.

C will then focus his efforts on completing Ride London for the 4th time and is then doing 350 miles in 5 days in September for the same Charity that D is raising money for.

2025 is going to be busy!!

This sounds great. Have a great time tonight.

I go to the gym 5 to 6 days a week, with one of those sessions spent with a PT to put me through my paces but mainly to give me experience and confidence to use the equipment well and create plans.

Wow what an achievement already with your weight loss, you must be able to feel a beneficial improvement in your ability. Hope the 2hr dance session goes well.

When I first met P I used to attend FitSteps, which is kind of like strictly come dancing but you didn't need a partner or high heels. My coordination is rather shocking but my enthusiasm was infectious.

Training for the London marathon next year, generally try to get about 40km of runs per week but at the moment have an injury so don't want to do the usual thing and try and run through the pain.

First marathon but enjoying the training, no plan just make every run count.

Longest so far since I started back in August is 32km, no stoppong, no food, no water which is eqaully impressive as it is stupid

I used to run a few years ago although not far and work out daily.

I loved running, especially when it was cold or raining. But I’m out of practise with all exercise sadly. Both of my shoulders are knackered so I can’t even ride my horses. But I’m on the the list for more surgery and once I’m fixed I will be back at it all. The most I do is walk. I make sure I do no less than 15,000 steps a day.

I love reading what everyone gets upto as there is often new ideas and suggestions.

I really miss trail running in the UK particularly between now and spring in the winter in the Peak District.

Currently I’m doing minimal running (treadmill) but I have a pool on my roof and I do 100 diagonal laps every single day. As it starts to cool in Nov/Dec, I will do some sunrise and sunset beach runs

Please take this as polite friendly advice, distance running requires the body and brain to be well & regularly hydrated and fuelled.

Sorry to hear of your injuries, will look forward to you updating us on your rehabilitation and exercise progression over time.

Can I just say that 15k steps daily by walking is incredible in itself! I have a competition with my hubby to ensure we achieve 10k day and whoever loses each week has a forfeit.

Worksop S81

We've recently found an incredible route that goes from our home, across a public golf course then through woodland and onto some farmers fields. After around three miles there's a secluded church with views of a beautiful estate. We love to take a rest there and enjoy the silence and beauty. Three miles out, three miles back helps us de-stress once a week and we're lucky it's on our doorstep! Xx

I do love the autumn and winter for running outdoors too. I also run at the gym on the treadmill as I watch everyone workout and listen to music. I get my fix of people watching as I run.

The pool must be a great asset though and beach runs must be lush. Not envious much.

32k/20 miles with no food or water is ok if you've got your body used to it but that's about the limit for most people, certainly if you want any kind of pace. One of the reasons a marathon is so hard is that it is over the threshold that humans can race on stored carbs. Definitely worth practicing/training running on empty at low intensity but you also want to find a fueling strategy that works for you. That aside, a 40k week is a good baseline, especially if that is made up of 4/5 runs. I believe one of the learning points for me running longer distances is that I get more from my training maintaining a high weekly mileage on 5 - 6 runs a week than I do feeling like I have to train long distances and getting the same mileage on two short and one long run a week.

Good luck in London.

I'll stop jumping in on my wife thread now

"Absolutely hate cardio and running of any sorts, probably because we were forced to do cross country at school... I take my hat off to anyone that runs on or off road 👏

Cheers!

How do you keep in shape?

Mrs

Weights , keto and just walk instead of drive for short journeys don't count steps or anything though, 20 mins on the treadmill maybe once a week , used to be into road biking but don't have the time anymore "

A really good range of activities there. Very well done to you.

Well, that's a great physique for a relatively light (sounding) regime."

Gym 3-4 times a week but I work quickly usually done in 45 mins, high intensity and don't sit around for 5 mins talking between sets like a lot of people you get done quicker and it's almost like a cardio workout if you only rest for a short while keep your heart rate up , everyone prefers their own style that's what works for me

"Sort of written off this year but a small goal is to hit a 1000 cycling miles before the end of the year I need roughly just short of 16 miles a day.

Next year to start doing some runs again and hopefully do a triathlon would like to do a half ironman at some point in the next year or two

Keep us posted on your 1000M cycling target - best of luck!

We used to try to achieve 1000M running miles over the year. Picking that back up next year will be our mini goal.

A tri is a fantastic goal to have. have you done one before?

Mrs"

I’ve hit 2000 miles already this year but wanna hit another 1000 so need to keep pushing.

Currently commuting to work and back but on an evening I’m doing a few extra miles and if the weather is rubbish I come straight back and go on my trainer bike instead.

Not done a triathlon but done plenty of duathlons run/cycle/run but would like to do the swim as well.

I’ve had a great north run place for the last two years and give them up as just haven’t really prepared myself for it I did it 3yr ago last time.

Feel most confident about the bike as I regularly ride, but, never after a swim and never when wet 😳

I guess that’s the joy and challenge of it though 🤔

Yeah that's a good point. I suppose you will practice the transitions between swimming cycling stages when training. Keep us posted on how you get on with this part of training, it's quite intriguing.

"Still playing rugby, occasionally for the first team, and training twice a week with men less than half my age."

This is my sporting regime too. Although I’m only just hanging on to first team Rugby at 38!

Fantastic effort well done to you! Out of curiosity at what age do rugby players stop playing at that level? And also what would you choose instead of rugby when the time comes?

Can't beat youth at rugby, I retired at 44, brain was working but the legs didn't react quick enough, no hiding place on a rugby league pitch

I'm doing the London Duathlon again and hope to do another half marathon next year. Try to get back under 1 hour 35 again. I want to do a London to Paris cycle as well.

I am really curious to understand what the transition is like from a sport such as rugby or football once your playing days are over. Does it impact on mental wellbeing for a while?

When is the London duathlon? The London to Paris cycle, is that supported by a crew through a cycling club?

"We are keen runners and today we both ran a lovely 5 mile trail route with our dog.

Mrs"

Love running the Swansea seafront out of all races I've done nothing beats those views

I hate that area to run!! From the LC2 to the pier and back is a 10 mile run, totally flat and you can see your end point clearly each way you run and it never seems to get any closer.

It's a good run to push your pace on but that's providing you avoid busy times of the day.

I will admit it's a stunning view though.

A place where others reside

"C is a very active football referee with an eye on promotion in December so that's taking up all the time at the moment.

Oh wow you both have tremendous achievements ahead. Please do keep us posted on the promotion (fingers crossed) and will be interested to hear how your training progresses before your events. Good luck both!

Mrs

Thanks Mrs.

Should be a really good 12 months if all goes to plan but we'll have to wait and see.

Good luck with your running and training. Will have to keep the thread ticking over to keep an eye on everyone's progress

I promise to restart a weekly thread from now on to keep us all in the zone for our training 👌

Mrs"

Sounds like a good plan!
