What's your musical destination?

Basingstoke

As a keen listener of that there popular music, I found myself listening to a new track called 'The Pink Cactus Cafe' by Courteeners and it got me thinking about my favourite Keane track 'The Sovereign Light Cafe'. That song always leaves me feeling uplifted and I think that one day I'd like to visit the Sovereign Light Cafe in Bexhill. (Assuming it's still there.)

Are there any destinations (and they don't have to be cafes) referenced in musical works that you'd like to visit? Why? Have you actually done so? Did they live up to expectation?

The Sovereign Light cafe is still there and very popular. The Sovereign Light itself isn't though

Does it refer to a specific Shire?

East London

London Bridge is Falling Down.

I ride on the bus over it on my journey home from my long term buddy's house.

I always sing it to myself as we cross the bridge.

That's so cute! I actually do something similar whenever I get into London on the train... Waterloo Sunset runs through my mind. Especially at that time of day.

That would be idyllic! Do you need a travel buddy?

Ooh Dermot Kennedy sings a line in one of the first songs of his I ever heard...

"Take me back to places I feel loved in

Maybe failing that, take me to Boston"

So I'd like to go there.

I don't think I've ever heard that... Off to Spotify to check out Dermot Kennedy.

The beastie boys always left me intrigued about Paul’s boutique.

Cheryl crow made we wanna visit Santa Monica boulevard.

Thanks to pearl jam my ultimate musical destination is the Murphy’s bleachers bar near the cubs stadium in Chicago

Now this sounds like the bones of a great US road trip... Can you take Ragnar with you and take in Nashville as well?

Saw someone talking about the cargo ship thing and how to book it and thought that was interesting. Dunno if I could hack the Cunard thing.

I’d need to be off my face to tolerate a flight

I have a mate named Joe and his garage is full of great taste motorcycles which we often work on.

So the song for me would have to be...

Frank zappa - Joe's Garage

London

It's a local one, and I'm sure we've all been many times, but The Kinks' Waterloo Sunset always gives me the warm and fuzzies and thinking about meeting people (even though I know that's not really the sentiment of the song!)
