Gleam Street

Nah..it's man made and over commercialised.

We went a day trip that took in the Secret Lagoon...as our guide said... "Worst secret ever!"

It's a natural pool and absolutely gorgeous

Aren't alcoholic drinks much, much more expensive there, like Scandi countries?

I actually really enjoyed it. Quite commercial but still very different to anything in the UK. I'd go again!

Yeah it was about 9 quid a pint when I was there nearly 10 years ago

Yip, it's water run-off from the hydro power plant next door. Safe to swim in but the other natural pool around the island are much nicer.

Still a good experience though

I liked all of Iceland. I would say the waterfalls are better than the blue lagoon or geysers but you can easily drive to all from Reykjavik.

People are right that the blue lagoon is just an outfall from a power plant but it is a cool colour and feels odd on the skin.

Everything does smell of eggs (sulphur) though

Hit the bars too early and they'll be dead though. Icelanders tend to drink in the house till late then go to the pub around 11pm or midnight

Download the app that dictates where the 2 for 1 happy hour bars are

Happy hour rotates through the bars so it helps with the pub crawl & the cost!!

Theres also "the world's only genuine penis museum" (from their website, genuinely!)

Phallus.is the website !

£9 a pint 10 years ago could potentially mean close to £100 now, with how inflation has hit .

I'm going to visit next year

I thought it was about the film. Then I thought it was about the supermarket.

I'm so fucking confused now.

Don't do the blue lagoon. There's a better natural hot spring further around the golden circle. Blue Lagoon is a man made tourist trap and gets really busy soon after the stop overs arrive.

It's a grimey sex pond. Secret lagoon is much nicer and quiter. The water is much hotter as well.

Although I did fall in love at the blue lagoon.

Oh and don't book a trip to see the northern lights without knowing the forecast first. Only go when forecast is good.

"Hi any one been before and recommendations for what to do when put in Iceland "

Sure it’s touristy as hell but I love the blue lagoon. I like the drive towards it this time of year , then sun never rarely gets high so you get some beautiful shots of low sun, mountains and steam rising.

Once you’re there and through the queues the lagoon itself is beautiful, again make sure you have a waterproof camera or bag to put your phone in because Photography in the water this time of year is stunning.

Other things to do in Iceland. All the trips are decent because the scenery is just out of this world especially in winter.

Icelanders are big story tellers, Many people have second jobs as authors, and a great local pastime is sitting around at night in warm blankets drinking hot chocolate reading stories to each other so ask about that see if you can find a group of people, some hotels even bring authors in for this.

To see the Northern Lights you don’t need to go on any trips just go to the end of the road at saltjarness, It’s a 10 minute drive from Reykjavík Centre. There’s a lighthouse where people meet up and you’ve got a very low light pollution, So if they are visible now is good there is anywhere else on the island.

Bear in mind you’re gonna get really cold and tired on some of the long trips, food is very expensive and generally crap, so take lots of snacks.

When I go to Iceland I take my jet boil and stock up on noodles from the supermarket, I don’t bother eating out much I just go for the Photography.
