For anyone who doesn't yet boycott nestle - the chairman is now claiming that water is not a human right....

and it should be treated as a commodity - funny that they are the biggest supplier of bottled water....

Even if you just switch our coffee brand - even just stopping using nescafe would cause a noticeable protest for them

Even if just for one week

Treating water as a commodity and granting it property rights will reduce pollution and help create more sanitary sources of water. Once water becomes a commodity, the legal system will have the justification to prosecute any industry or individual that damages the water supply because it will be destruction to property. When water is a human right, and nobody owns the rights to the water, then there is nobody to prosecute

So I guess you do not buy coffee anyways, you must spend all your spare money making sure the everyone in the world has access to clean drinking water?

lol yes that is exactly what I do

of course I drink coffee - like most people I donate to a charity or have taken part in events - I maybe considered a little crunchy but I am by no means a eco warrior.

Nestle have been responsible for so many terrible things that seemed a small thing to do, we don't buy nestle in our house nor any of its associated companies as much as I can keep on top of who they have brought. Just because I don't do anything doesn't mean I can't do something

Some of my friends buy nestle some of them don't some are stricter than me others less so - it can never hurt to try

Nestle have been evil for years.

Back in the 90s I was involved in research where they have paid (bribed?) hospital staff in China to keep newborn babies away from their mothers for a couple of days until the baby was used to Nestle milk powder.

Whichever marketing genius came up with that made that plan - utter bastard.

We try to boycott here, very difficult though as Nestle own everything! They own part of the body shop which gutted me

That is essentially what they are. And you don't need to be a hippy/crunchy/eco warrior to be opposed to their methods.

Well well, you live and learn. Never did like Nescafe anyway so that's no problem. I must have a look to see what else Nestle do and give that a miss just like I do not go to Tesco, I think their stuff is crap.

Oh, and I used to work in the water industry!

They've always done that. They've caused untold deaths in Africa by making women reliant on formula milk when there was no clean water supply to make it up with.

I was once called into my daughter's school as she'd told her RE teacher that the Pope killed babies in Africa and Nestlé mopped up the survivors ! Don't know where she got that idea from...

did they call you into school to tell your daughter off or offer you a job?

I'd have done the latter

Our one and only female PM said exactly the same thing when she sold the entire UK supply to private "investors"

You dont think your water company gives you tap water, out of the goodness of their heart do you ???

Anyone who has a pension fund probably indirectly owns shares in Nestlé, as a top performing equity.

The exception to this is if you are in a sociably responsible fund, which will generally screen out Nestlé due to the environmental impact of palm oil.

If enough people do it then it does work and it does bring results.

Years ago Gerald ratner CEO of a huge jewellry chain described the stuff they sold to a CBI conference as crap. As people were buying this "crap" that they thought was good for loved ones etc, the bottom fell out of a very successful brand, ratner lost his job and several millions in shares etc and the chain eventually was renamed.

Similarly Liverpool fans from all over the world inundated any lending institution tht was going to back the clubs previous Ameican owners. Eventually this led to the forced sale of the club and one of the Americans admitted that it was the efforts of the fans that had stopped them in their tracks.

If enough people boycotted Nestle products because of the utterance of that guy, you can be sure that action would be taken. In reality though, what he said is unlikely to stir up enough resentment in people to cause a product boycott to happen.

They called me in to find out where she got her ideas from. After 10 minutes, they realised where and promised not to bother me again !
