Grand National, London Marathon

Lots of people are calling for the Grand National horse to be scrapped due to the death of some horses during the race. So we then using the same logic should they also be calling for scrapping of events like the London Marathon due to deaths of some runners ?

Horses don't have a choice in competing in the Grand National, people make an informed choice when competing in the Marathon.

So no, I don't think the marathon should be scrapped because of deaths.

off the top of my head there was around 35000 runners last year. 1 died. her inquest found a cause to death linked to a stimulant that she had chosen to take. I'm not sure when the last fatality was but the total in all London marathons is almost certainly in single figures and I'd guess that in all the years it has been held the cumulative total of runners has to be around the million mark.

Now lets look at the fatality rate in the National?

We might as well scrap everything that poses some kind of risk to physical health and live in cotton wool secure at home.

Even then the home poses it's own risks.
