Hello fabbers, I have a question about how ADHD and Anxiety are linked. So,has anyone any experiences they would like to share with us? How has one or the other or both affected your life?

Probably the brains inability to switch off so to speak.

At any one Time I'm thinking about 100 thing's unable to relax causing anxiousness and stress and so it goes on.

Sleep should be a way to relax but takes ages to get to sleep only for a fleeting moment and awake again , brain at 100 mph...

Thankyou for sharing this. It kinda answers a good few of my questions about a girlfriend I was seeing. However she never did tell me her problems.

How did you learn to deal with your problem?

It was around when you were young it just wasn’t recognised. The ignorance here is sad.

Depression and anxiety I would agree perhaps gets played a lot. Some if it is just life. The things I have to deal with in my every day life is unbelievable and I often think I can’t cope with this anymore and have mini breakdowns. That’s not a mental health issue that’s life and the cards I’ve been dealt! So whilst I agree that things are too often put down to “mental health issues” I can’t agree that actual diagnosed mental health illnesses aren’t real.

And also anxiety from PTSD, I used to have panic attacks, which I didn’t know at first, I thought I had issues with my heart.

Now I take meds as and when I need, I don’t take them daily.

There’s also breathing exercises you can do for anxiety, as well as seating and laying positions for circulatory posture to slow your heart rate.

I also have adhd, some days are like a trance or completely day dreaming and it’s hard to focus. I have been doing some different exercises for it and some research, there is some huge science break throughs with it. It’s to do with the nervous system and doesn’t always come from the head. If anyone is interested there are videos from a man wil hof and they have helped me breathing techniques that get your balance right

Most anxiety is caused by fear of the future and what you think is going to happen and 95% of the time it never does.

You need to train your brain to understand this and de compartmentalise it, you may need professional help for this or there is plenty of literature out there on the subject.

If you are clinically diagnosed with ADHD you may need meds to help you, but that may then be a life long commitment.

It's very individual and not a black and white area.

Autism fits Always shy away’ struggle to fit in’ always looking for confirmation etc etc

ADHD everything has be right’ i need to plan or know the plan or it just messes with my head.

I get to work 30 mins before start time and if i get delayed on way to work my day if buggered.

So for example if you plan something yourself and someone tries to improve and help you out with travel plans. Would this mess up your head and your day and days ahead will be stressful?? Plus you would fall out with the person whose trying to help you

I've spent fair few years going to clubs as a single and now as couple (and I still sometimes go alone or we spend periods seperate with different groups/side missions). Which for me are a potential of real struggle axiety wise being on the spectrum. Some times I find myself like a swan in the water. Trying to keep composure on the surface (I spent my life masking) while paddling like mad below surface. I find that if my anxiety is building up to a point I will struggle socially and/or melt down I just remove myself from the social space. I make an excuse and go find a quiet spot away from the action (why despite not smoking Im seen occasionally in the smoking area sometimes). Just take some breathing space to ground myself, take stock and when I'm good I go back in. This tends work me.

I don't have ADHD but I am energy sensitive - both are which a gift and a curse.

By the way you are AMAZING with your ADHD!

My wife is very focussed, so some form of ADHD. Just worked it out last year.

Mindfulness is amazing - Balance App free for a year and a Lifetime sub will pop up at some point at about £70. I have this, so do a lot of my mates.

Check out your local gym which is supported by your local authority; there may be a free or discounted membership after seeing your GP halving the monthly price to around £20 a month. I do yoga and mindfulness.

Get into nature when you can.

Try a few months away from meat/dairy, this in my experience added to my anxiety so I became a very reluctant vegan and made a huge difference to me.

Aromatherapy, incense are important to me.

Had some Reiki, and decided to learn it. Now doing a Reflexology course, doing a massage course soon.

These are just a few of my modalities to survive - and open to messages or questions for any of the above.

It’s a shame when I see people querying the legitimacy of ADHD diagnosis, as I’ve seen personally on so many occasions how affirming diagnosis can be for people. Quite often people are diagnosed with anxiety and depression for years before looking into alternative conditions.

It's so very validating to get an ND diagnosis, although I'm autistic rather than ADHD. I was misdiagnosed with borderline/EUPD as a teenager, and I know about 5 women who experienced the same. The damage done from years of being told that with therapy you can "get better" takes a long time to recover from.

I think as much as getting a diagnosis is helpful waiting lists are so long and that's if you can even get on them in the first place.

There is alot of helpful information out there, the adhd chatter podcast is amazing!

There's more books out than ever than you may relate to depending on your type of adhd.

There are online courses that are easy to follow in particular empoweryouradhd if searching.

Counselling can also help some people to learn to work with there brain than against it.

Adhd coaching is also something that can be looked into without a diagnosis.

My local area has an adult adhd centre for any support and socialising which is fantastic and much needed in all areas. Search your local area then adhd adult support to see what's available. Again these places aren't always asking for diagnosis they know how long it can take in some areas for this.

Not everyone wants to take medication, some might decide on things like omega 3s, lions mane, 3 in 1 magnesium with glycinate, sleep apps, apps for to do lists, regulation through habits, exercise.

Everyone's very much different and its just finding what works for yourself.

YES! The sheer amount of people who have been literally been tortured with CBT/ other therapies which are incompatible with ND conditions because of misdiagnosis is insane. Even more bizarre that NDA young people are being pushed towards it because services are so stretched and don’t have appropriate interventions at their disposal.

One million percent this

It's so frustrating for young people to be told there's services there but then to be refused because services are stretched so much and then going on massive waiting lists. The whole system is a mess really. More needs to be done.

"Hello fabbers, I have a question about how ADHD and Anxiety are linked. So,has anyone any experiences they would like to share with us? How has one or the other or both affected your life? "

Was diagnosed a year ago with ADHD after knowing my whole life I was different. Been taking antidepressants/anti-anxiety meds for years however after starting ADHD meds since May and upping my dose I’m finally starting to see the difference and no longer mask who I am.

RSD - Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria is something that I struggle from massively which also causes anxiety and is strongly linked to ND.

Happy to chat to anyone who would like some support or just a listening ear.

"I’m really interested in exploring ADHD and a strong desire for NSA hook ups.

I’ve pretty much desired this for myself for most of my years.

Has anyone else with ADHD felt like this???

I think there’s definite links between neuro divergence and “alternative” sexual lifestyles and preferences. Whether that be NSA, poly, swinging, kink etc.

Omg I’ve always known this.

I’ve just never been able to kick the fab habit and the excitement it gives me.

I’ve been in and off the NSA world since 2007, even now in a stable relationship I’m still drawn back into my desire for finding fab friends.

It’s been such a realisation that I’m now finding myself and others who are just like me "

Good old dopamine chasing 😂😂. There’s nothing like the feeling of connecting with someone new, finding out their desires and exploring them together.

I’m pretty similar lol. Shopping and impulse purchasing is another for me!!

I’ve found myself draw into chasing 3 sums as 121 encounters no longer give me the hit I need from fab.

Any one else feel like this???
