Hi everyone I am looking at learning to master rope tying for bondage.

Was just curious if anyone has recommendations for on line courses for beginners to join.

Shibari I believe it is called. For erotic pleasure.

There’s are lots of places to look. I follow a few people on insta, there are videos on YouTube but as others have said; learning in person from experienced riggers is definitely the best and safest way.

I started with video tutorials and practiced on myself

As others have said whiles utube, books and online courses are a good starting point. It's deffo worth face to face classes. It's not just about the knots, there's a lot of safety involved.

I can drop you a message of someone who I recomened, if you wish? They also have a fab profile.

There are some specific websites that have tutorials such as the duchy of Cornwall, but without the Cornwall.

And good old YouTube is worth a look. We have attended some rope classes run by a chap called Christian Red who has a channel on YouTube and has a presence on that other site.

Hope you have fun!

You can green arrow for resources I put up on another shibari thread.

This is my take on shibari

There is a distinction between shibari and rope bondage even though both involve rope, in the same way there is a difference between rugby union, rugby league and American football although the types of football they all use an oval ball.

If you want tie someone to a bed safely that can be learnt in a few hours. If you want to get good at tying a number of pretty patterns that can take 6 months. If you want to get good at rope bondage, possibly a couple of years if you have someone to practice with regularly. But that is not counting the different types of rope bondage.

To master shibari is an ongoing practice. Like martial arts, shibari has different schools with varying philosophies but which are Japanese based, despite American and European practitioners trying to avoid those aspects.

Practising shibari is a different mindset from rope bondage, and although shibari can be erotic with elements of S&M, the emphasis is more about a partnership with the person you are tying rather than sexual D/s with rope.

Good luck.
