Do you diet?

Ordinarily I don’t diet but I’m going to a wedding in Cape Town soon so I started the Human Being Diet to shift a bit of excess weight I’ve gained through working nights at a prepared meals factory.

Initially it was really hard going, both mentally and physically but after Phase 2 (16 days) I’d managed to lose 6,8kg which was pretty impressive. If you’re after losing weight I highly recommend it if you stick strictly to the rules! Currently a couple of weeks into Phase 3 where the weight loss slows down but certain foods are reintroduced which feels like a luxury

FYI this diet from P1 and P2 involves no carbs, no sugar, no alcohol, no oils or fats and no dairy and the protein and vegetables are measured portions. Like I said, it’s not easy but if you want to lose weight, this is extremely effective!

I don't diet anymore, it's a vicious cycle. I've completely changed my life style so I'm just conscious of what I'm eating on a regular basis. I still have my treats and don't restrict food so it works for me.

Many years ago I tried dieting to lose the baby weight, but it didn't work because I just felt deprived and miserable. Calorie counting and me don't get on.

What eventually worked was cutting out refined carbs and sugar. No calorie counting, plenty of veg, moderate protein, and eating in an 8 hour window.

This is designed as a reset with a reintroduction of certain foods later on with the emphasis on gut health and effectively adopting more healthy eating habits. P3 lasts for 10 weeks (or until you hit your target weight if it’s sooner) and after that it’s pretty much reliant on you largely maintaining healthier eating without sticking to a plan which makes sense to me. Its not too dissimilar to a paleo lifestyle which is a good thing.

I've never been on a diet. When I put a bit of timber I just reign it in and exercise more.

Woah! That doesn't sound healthy. Your body needs fats, good ones. Low carb is great and a life long change not a diet and suits me well. More protein and healthy fats are needed and you can be healthy weight, fats are not the enemy.

Carlisle usually

No.

I'm awkward with food. I don't tend to have much drive to eat and have to tell myself to deal with it. If I had to then go through an approved list of what was and wasn't acceptable to follow a diet I'd probably just not bother at all.

I keep an awareness of food groups and necessary nutrients and make sure to vary what I eat. But I choose what I want without worrying about losing weight or building muscle, just what is needed to be healthy 💜

I know through, trial and error, what I need to eat over a week to maintain my health based on the amount I exercise. That’s what I eat. If I have had a blow out one day then I just dial it back slightly for the next few days so that the weekly amount is about right.

I weigh myself everyday (just due to habit) and that is how I know what impacts my weight over time.

No oils/fats is incredibly unhealthy.

I have to be picky about food textures because I have problems swallowing caused by my disability. I largely don't eat meat anymore but mainly because I can't swallow it. It's depressing and repetitive and I'd much rather just be able to eat whatever.

And I don't know how I'm still so fat because I'm mainly existing on homemade vegetable soups and lentil/bean stews.

That's not sustainable, you're better off fasting for a week or two as you'll probably loose similar weight, then go back to normal eating, way better for you too.

No. I grew up with a mum who was constantly on a diet (to no great effect) and it was tiresome.

I just can’t be bothered with restrictions, it makes me want what I can’t have (even if it’s something I don’t normally eat!) so I prefer to eat healthy (ish).

My downfall is that I need to exercise in order to lose/maintain weightloss, and at the moment I just can’t be arsed.

The word diet usually means avoiding certain foods or cutting things out completely, my problem with that is that your body needs a bit of everything to function properly, so I don't "diet" I just make wise choices, have a bit of self control and moderation so this way I can eat whatever I want most of the time all year round and not be all depressed and feeling like crap because I'm on a diet and my body has 0 carbs in it or whatever it might be. Also diets come to an end so the weight you worked so hard to lose will slowly creep back in again afterwards when you go back to your old ways

Yeah I did that... Worked well to start... Lost over 2 stone in 9 months... But... Put it all back on and more now.. So trying intermittent fasting and seeing how that goes. Bad habits are hard to break.

Not a diet so much as a lifestyle change. Started when we both started Slimming World and then went solo with a little bit of keto introduced.

Simply cut out processed foods, reduced the carbs, measure fruit intake, use our syns on healthy fats and nuts etc and eat predominantly fresh meat and vegetables.

Hubby has lost 6st and I've lost 3st.

I’ve been doing keto since July and my weight has dropped off. I don’t usually subscribe to diet practices because, as others have said, one’s body needs a full range of nutrients from all sources, they’re restrictive, and often don’t address the underlying issue which causes weight to return once the diet concludes.

However, my underlying issue was getting injured and being unable to run but continuing to eat huge portions and the (admittedly all too frequent) takeaways.

Going on keto for a self-imposed five months allowed me to fix my injuries and get back out running while pursuing a strict regime to address my body shape. I’ve always been slim so hated my belly and moobs, they’ve now all but disappeared and I once again fit into my clothes. I now feel like my old self and am happy again. My birthday in December is the finish line and is my present to myself - the revised new (old) me. I’ll then be dating with confidence and finally able to buy some new clothes.

I’m very aware keto (or any diet) is not a long term solution, but it has really worked for me.

This. I live a relatively active lifestyle so I don’t worry about particulars but I also know I perform better in the gym, the training mats and the football field if I eat and hydrate well.

Having fish and chips for dinner tonight with no fucks given 🙌

I cut and bulk. I don’t really see it as dieting, I just keep my protein high and adjust my calorie intake based on my goals.

No, I don't diet in terms of cutting any food groups out - I don't think that's necessary or sustainable (but, as always, whatever works for you as an individual!).

But if I want to lose a bit of weight, I'll track overall calories to make sure I'm burning off more than I put in, but will still eat all the foods I normally eat.

That’s only for 16 days and then they are introduced in moderation. The principle of it is to target visceral and subcutaneous fat which are then replaced with extra virgin olive oil and natural animal fats. Carbs are also low level after the 16 days so you don’t gain weight, rather maintain your goal weight.
