Also, that no matter how head over heels you are, it is very important to never lose yourself in the process.

Many of us give everything to someone else and neglect ourselves, and if that's not being reciprocated or it doesn't work out in the long run, it's very hard to remember who you are and what you need and enjoy. x

I don't think it's about not being able to be loved, it's being loved in the right way. When you don't love yourself you are more likely to accept people who are not good for you.

Learnt a few things as a teen.

1) If you treat her like a Queen, she will treat you like a subject.

2) You have no control over other people's actions, just your own and what you will or wont tolerate.

3) Nice guys finnish last.

You have to pay attention to how they treat you just as much as how you treat them amd you don't have to tollerate certain things. You can walk away.

To be fair, I'm glad it happened. Would not have met my wife of 28 years otherwise and I doubt she'd have any interest in the guy I was who had little confidence in himself and was worried about being alone if he didn't put up with certain crap. Better it happened to me.at 18 than 28 so to speak.

Granny, you'll probably be unsurprised to know that Pickle's question brought a song into my head. A song from primary school:

Love is something if you give it away

Give it away, give it away.

Love is something if you give it away

You end up having more.

It's just like a magic penny

Hold it tight and you won't have any.

Lend it, spend it and you'll have so many

They'll roll all over the floor.
