and tha girl behind the counter was talking to her work mate about how she had to look up who mrs thatcher was, i was gob smacked, she must be mid twenties, is history not taught in schools anymore?

Only the important stuff. And usually a bit further back than the early 90's.

If she's in her mid twenties she would have been 15 ten years after thatcher left office.

10 years back ain't history

No doubt all sorts of stuff is taught in schools. If the pupils turn up or bother to listen and retain when they do is another matter.

Somewhere near NE Derbyshire/S Yorkshire/Nottinghamshire border

I was at secondary (high) school 1994-1999 and cant remember ever touching on prime ministers and what they did during terms of office however did not do at gcse level so couldnt comment on that, but even during earlier years we never touched on the strikes etc seen as that is all shes remembered for

Given the hysterical bawling about the harm she did to the country that we've been listening to for the last week, I'm surprised she's not knocked Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot off the history curriculum.
