I wouldn't worry about it unless you want to use the most up to date features. I'm still using the original iPhone 4 software, never updated. It works, does what I want it to do still.

If it ain't broke...........

Well updates and upgrades two different things updates normally a good idea keeps the phone running at it's best possible means but true there not a must now upgrades you can only do at the end of contract and if honest if you are a big fan of taking pics with your phone there are some great phones out with better cams out now and coming out at the end of the month the galaxy s4 being one of them

Updates are always good to do as they keep the OS ( operating system ) and software running smoothly and with no bugs.

Unless its a major fix you probably wont notice the difference but its always worth doing, you update your PC/Laptop with Microsoft so why not your phone ??

I think the Firmware upgrade on the S2 was a significant change - I cannot remember what it was now it was so long ago, but it's easy to do:

If you haven't done so, install "Samsung Kies" onto your PC. Once it's installed, plug your S2 into the PC via the USB cable then open up Kies. Once you've done that, the software will tell you what your firmware version is and what the latest version is then it will give you the option to upgrade.

Tip: Back up your phone first, just in case it goes tit's up ! - This can also be done from 'Kies'

If it's only App upgrades that your after, just set it in the options and you will receive regular updates for individual Apps over the air.

On mine I can search fir updates. Go to settings, about device, then software update. You cant really do it wrong. If theres one available it should tell you, I have an s3 so am only assuming the s2 operates in a similar way x

why have cotton when you can have silk, therefore why have gingerbread when you can have jelly bean (that's the name of the software updates) - I don't think the S2 automatically updates, mine doesn't, but it is w much smoother system. Best thing to do would be to watch a YouTube video about jelly bean and look at its interface and see if you like it. You'll find apps will work better and you'll look even sexier, if that was possible xxx

the 4.0 update for the s2 was big, with a few changes here and there, but the 4.1 update is an absolutely massive change, it make the phone exactly like a s3 without 1 or 2 of the features of course.samsung are not going to make a lesser model perform like the flagship are they lol
