"So todays the day the lay to rest The Iron Lady. Not that I particularly cared for her or supported her but I do believe everyone has the right to a peaceful and respectful funeral. So in that respect i hope today goes smoothly with no violence, riots , clashes etc, although i fear this will not be the case ?? What do you guys reckon ?? " I agree with you but can't see it being peaceful

"I doubt the Met will let anything kick off during the funeral. If there are 'disturbances' they'd be more likely to happen this evening in the aftermath.... after all, it's so much more fun to go looting Currys when the shop's shut, innit.... " True plus the huge military presence ! Plus they would have to go to Currys as Comet doesnt exist anymore

"Just shows how divisive the woman was and still is. If there was a basic simple family and friends funeral that would not stick in the gullet but the fact the security level is so high shows this is more about political posturing. Money found from nowhere not suprisingly. Lets assume for one moment the figure of ten million is a close figure of cost there is no way on gods earth can this be justified how many folk who are in genuine poverty would this money help. Shameful." The country is still paying for her policies as it is.So lets just get her in the ground at any cost & be done with her.!

"there would be respect for the dead in this instance if th dead in question while alive had respect for the living." So you feel no compassion for her family or their loss ?? Regardless of your feelings about her, the very least you can do as a human being is show respect and compassion for those she left behind.

For communities laid waste...she may be dead but the hurt she caused is still apparent to this day.." Then concentrate on them and their feelings etc today and forget about all that for now !! If so I suggest equal criticism is levelled at the last labour government who failed to help these communities despite a period of economic wealth in this county

"Who has suggested £10 million for the funeral? The media! Who believes a wild guess, rather than fact, those that do, shame on you for being sucked in by the media!!.......The real cost is being revealed after the event, the ceremony and it's planning was done by the Blair government. The military are paid for anyway. The Thatcher family are making an unpresedented contribution to the whole thing, again how much will be published after. Whatever your politics are imaterial on this day, it is about the British people and the world ( shown by the dignitaries who wanted to show their respects )doing so for one of our prime ministers, who served our country in public office. It is a day of solemn reflection, for the family and friends and to remember a life. Have an opinion, yes, but show dignity and decorum. " Best comment on this thread well said !!!

I believe it's an all encompassing figure taking into account people's wages for the days they've worked on it. I imagine all Metpol leave was cancelled and overtime granted for instance. The army is paid for yes, but there's the transport costs for them all. The hotel bills for various dignitaries (those not in embassies) will be paid no doubt. And the loss of trade as people not concerned stay away for the day. I know 3 people not commuting in today. And unless there are any members of her family on here I suspect they are highly unlikely to hear about or be offended by any comments people are making here. So the only ones getting in a tiz are yourselves.

Whatever the figure, it would still be unpalitable to some and I respect peoples right to object in a democracy, it's what defines us. Tiz? I agree that the very mention of a certain person would bring comments from both ends of the spectrum. Today is what it is, I suspect that we will be having the same fractious comments when another prime minister passes and has the same state funeral bestowed upon them. State occassions cost, the cost of the Queens recent celebration, William and Kates wedding, the London Marathon, the olympics . It's what it is.
