Never gave it a watch but I like the horror anthology idea of every series being different. Can any viewers recommend the best seasons to watch and ones to avoid?

It's awesome OP, I've binged for free when in the USA. With it was a free to view series in the UK. Series 1 to 3 are gripping and very well made

Same the first three, just got me thinking of the banana song in asylum, I’ve carried on watching this but the first three still had the best cast

Only watched Asylum, Coven and Hotel

I didn’t enjoy Hotel.

I want to watch the other Witchy (ish) one but in all honestly I thought the whole AHS vibe was slightly over-rated.

Cabinet of Curiosities was excellent for short individual ones.

The Fall of the House of Usher series on prime was a lovely callback to various Poe stories and tied together well.

I have to agree - "Midnight Mass" was a very good series, with the usual great performances from Flanagan's regular ensemble.

And "The Fall of the House of Usher" was a thoroughly absorbing Poe adaptation. Watch for Mark Hamill stealing every scene he's in!

As for AHS, I loved the Freak Show season. The effects to create a conjoined Sarah Paulson twins were incredible. A great nod to Tod Browing throughout, too.

I loved the Freak Show season. I've got an abiding weakness for the doomed carnival theme.

Which allows me to segue into recommending the old HBO series Carnivalé.

This. I loved them. I liked Freak Show too. They also did a series called American Horror Stories where each episode was a complete story.
