I have this thing where for a couple of weeks or so of a positive new interaction or relationship I think the person is flawless and the greatest thing thats ever been.

It's an obsession of a kind. The sheen does eventually wear off and I see them as the rounded individual that they(and eveyone) are.

It's something I am aware of and temper that initial honeymoon period accordingly

I admit I'm not really the norm on this kind of thing, but I have to really, really like someone (see something in them, admiration of some sort, the X factor... whatever you want to call it) in order to have any attraction or want to progress things. I'm a dopamine starved individual, though.

I was obsessed with a guy in my teen years. He knew it and used it to his advantage at times.

We were never together and were only friends but I still remember the first time I ever saw him. I swear my heart skipped quite a few beats and did every time I saw him.

The last one was about 17 years ago. He was a lot younger than me but he kissed with the experience and understanding of the power of a kiss.

I am quite controlled, so it never gets to the point of obsession and if I think it could, I would act on the signs

To date, I have managed to spot if I am falling and it isn't appropriate to do so

I will generally stop contact at that point

I am not ashamed or scared to tell them I am doing that though

I think having a nice time with someone and then just ghosting them because of how you feel is really unfair- to both of you

A couple of times. Although I didn't think they were perfect, and I was always very aware that I didn't have the full picture as to who they were. The intrusive thoughts absolutely did my head in, so I cut contact.

On both occasions I was very unwell mentally, and I think my brain was looking for a distraction. Fortunately, I had enough self-awareness to recognise that and knock it on the head. Limerence is not a pleasant experience and feels very different to having a strong crush.

Oh my God yes. Only with one woman when I was 18. But it dragged on for far longer than it should have and I learnt quite a few very costly life lessons. Ironically a lot of my most significant and successful decisions and life changes stemmed from it.
