Highly evocative smells that get your brain thinking.

Brylcreem = grandfather; old spice = father; isis perfume = first sexual encounter.

What smells make you instantly connect your brain to the past?

The closest I can describe it as is dettol, but it wasn't quite dettol. But the smell of the nurse's room in primary school you were sent to when sick and had to wait for your Mum/Dad to pick you up.

A freshly baked cake. Not a smell of yore - but I knew it was a good day when I pitched up at Nan's after school to that smell.

Not TCP (though that's another throwback!), but quite possibly iodine...I'd need to smell it though!

Iodine tincture was a common treatment for cuts and grazes in schools. Stains your skin brown.

Not TCP (though that's another throwback!), but quite possibly iodine...I'd need to smell it though!

They used to use it many years ago,no household was without a bottle of this volcanic liquid, coz that's what it feels like a few dabs on a graze or cut and it feels like someone has put lava on you
