Quick question re grinding brakes please

The brakes on my van started making a grinding noise, what seemed odd & was probably a coincidence was it only started happening after I’d had the tyres changed.

Anyways it’s been in for service, reported the brakes were grinding & as suspected they said the pads were worn & replaced but they’re still making the same noise, will they settle down or is something else going on?

Many thanks.

Just a few questions…

What shape are the new tyres?

If the pads are new it’ll be the rotor or bearings. Frankly they should’ve been checked when the pads were changed so go to a different garage.

Noise all the time or just when the brakes are on?

"Noise all the time or just when the brakes are on? "

Grinding noise just when the brakes are applied, same noise as before the pads were changed, maybe slightly quieter though.

Might be the brake disc itself, the rotor or the bearings.

I'd probably take it to a different place and get it checked out.

The answers normally to “why isn’t it working?” are usually a club or a social. In this case I would recommend a social because there is a good chance you will find a mechanic there.

My car went in for it's MOT today, passed with flying colours, which begs the question, why did an authorised Merc agent encourage me to have the brake pads replaced last year when they did the MOT? I've driven over 10,000 miles since then! It could be dirt on the pads, it could be they fitted them wrong, or there was never anything wrong in the first place?

Last time I had that, the brakes were seized up. They had to change the pads as well but the noise was gone.

Take it back to the garage.

Most likely damaged the disk, might need levelling by a grinder

If only makes the noise when the brakes are applied

And all the pads are new, but what make are they?

As if the wrong compound for the discs.

That would make a grinding sound?

I am though 😝 and the disk most likely formed a lip from the pad wearing down to metal

The best way to fix any noise on your car, is to turn the stereo up, if you can’t hear it. It’s not there.
