"And No, I don't mean that kinda organ thank you Gentlemen. Better late than never I spose, but I have just registered with http://www.organdonation.nhs.uk to become an organ donor should the need arise. Is anyone else a registered donor or know anyone who has been a recipient? Nicky" There was a thread not long ago with a very touching story about organ donation. I have been a donor for years, I also intend to donate my body when i die.

"Sadly I have been battling cancer for the last 3 years. I needed a full blood change at one point and if it wasn't for the kind people out there that donated blood I would not be here now. All my family are registered now and I think its a great thing to give life to someone else." That lovely My son died aged 20 months and I donated his organs, because of his illness not everything could be used but I gladly let them take what could be used, it wasnt a easy choice to make but children under 5 can only receive organs from another child under 5 due to the size and development, its the group that have the lowest donation as not many parents want someone cutting and removing their dead babies body parts, which I respect and fully understand but i just felt if I could save one child and stop one other mother feeling how I felt it would be worth it, also his life seemed to make more sense if his death helped another person, if I just buried him there just didn't seem any point in what I went thro, that probably don't make sense to anyone else but it did to me, reading posts from the guy above who has benefited from such generous donation, after all the gift of life is the greatest gift you can give, makes you realise its all worth while Im on the list, I just cant see the point in rotting away or being burnt when there are parts that could save others, I wont need them when im dead so why not let someone else get use from them?

"It definitely should be an opt out. Seem ridicularse that it isn't. Same with giving blood. Why wouldn't you do it x" not a case of not wanting to give bloody. no a single person on here can, if you give blood and tell them your a swinger they wont take it, you could lie but they ask you for a reason so I feel it wrong to lie to them, I gave blood for year till I started doing this then they stop taking it

It must vary from area to area....My plan is all sorted.....my organs will be harvested then my brain goes to one place( no arsey comments) then the rest of me goes elsewhere.

I think it varies depending on who the body is left too. I know if a person undergoes a post mortem, very rarely is the body any subsequent use to science.
