Do people take advantage of ones kindness?

From the land of haribos.

I was reading an open debate and I want to see how you see it.

This is what it was about: Really? It must be true that when you love a person the most and give them the best of yourself, that is when they disappoint you the most.

There was a mix of responses of yes and no. I agreed with one who said that people who receive a lot are selfish and take advantage of the fact that they know they have you, but things change when you stop paying attention to them and you are the one in charge.

It would be interesting to see what you think of it and do you also agree that people take advantage of ones kindness too?

Certain types of people might. But it's our responsibility to keep firm and healthy boundaries for our own wellbeing and self-respect. You can be kind and not a mug. I speak as a former mug.

Sometimes. Maybe I should be a right bastard instead (unlikely to be fair. I'd give you the shirt off my back)

There's plenty who will and plenty who will allow it to happen as well.

It's like Nell says. Set your own boundaries and make sure you don't allow anyone to cross them.

You need to protect your own mental wellbeing as the majority won't care as long as they get what they want!

May sound negative, but it's the unfortunate reality of actually trying to be nice to people.

Being kind is one thing, being a push over is another.

Saying you're being taken advantage of while continuing to do the things asked of you is a bit daft.

Some people will take advantage of others. Some also play psychological games, with both potentially doing so, outside of awareness

Sometimes I feel like a mug too. To be fair I think most people don’t always realise when they are taking advantage and will accept a reminder.

Do _some_ people take advantage of a kind nature? Yes of course they do.

Do _most_ people take advantage? No they don’t.

I go with the world view that most people are decent. The upsides from that far outweigh the costs of the minority who abuse it.
