They say on marathon day up 500,000 go to watch. If you think its the sort of event that they wouldn't have expected to be targeted.

It is scary at the ease they strike when they want to. You know Sunday will now have lots of scared people, and many won't turn up.

Horrid wicked people that do this.

The likelihood of this happening is very very low. It's the fear that they want to use to make people change their habits and change their liberal outlook.

It would be terrible for this to happen, but very unlikely.

Replace accidental with collateral and you're a bit closer to the truth of the matter...you must still have a short memory though, or be too young to have been around when they were bombing pubs in Birmingham (which was never exactly a hotbed of military activity)

I highly doubt it'll be homegrown. Usually the targets for that type of attack are government buildings or large corporations.

Could be religious extremists, they prefer mass killings of innocents because they don't have the ability to attack the hard/military targets away from their home turf.

do threads like this always have to end up with nit picking, one upmanship an wild guesses at who and why?

people have died (i believe 2 reported so far) peoples lives will have changed forever. people here will have concerns over friends and relatives who may have been there.

can we just keep this as a space to express condolances and send thoughts and prayers (if you are so inclined) to everyone affected.

the authorities will fiure out who and why. we only know what the news agencies are allowed or want to tell us.

Yes, but the underlying message might be different. An explosion at the beginning when the elite athletes are running through would cause chaos during the race. Waiting until towards the end and hitting the fun/charity runners when it's more likely to be friends and family watching just makes me wonder what is being conveyed.

London

Don't agree, it absolutely should go ahead.

Any public event is always a target for a nut - Are you going to cancel every sporting event, or every public event, every gig?

No way should we change how we live because of some nut case. Stopping the London marathon wouldn't stop someone from commiting a similar act, if they're that determined, they will simply choose something or someone else, like the Soho nail bomber did.

There is no such thing as 100 percent public safety, which is a shame, but that is the reality. Cancelling a similar event somewhere else in the world will change nothing.

We didn't close all our schools or cinemas after the American shootings either.

please show some respect a child has died let alone two others, in a terrorist attack and numerous people hurt they went to a event for a family day etc they didnt expect to be blown up .

as for the poster who stated in oraq 130 have died today very sad indeed that terrorists from there own nationality would do this. not sure my personal views should be aired i might get booted for a while lol. the tame versio stick anyone who has or had anything to do with radicalism on a islad and let that korean dude play with them.

As far as I can see you have already committed intellectual suicide!

If you wanted to reasonably debate the conspiracy theories surrounding the U.S. then start a thread. Why hijack someone else's with your own agenda?

Worth remembering that London, and the security of London, has been on a pretty high alert for several years.

They are I should think as prepared as they possibly could be for any incident.

totally disagree, once you start that attitude then 'they' have won..

yes adopt increased security measures etc..

but to give in to some fruit loop with a bomb for whatever idealogy they may have, no..

no way..

Ok, now I know I'm opening myself up to someone moaning at me but I don't care.

A few things that crossed my mind when I heard of the disgusting attack:

With NK threatening to do something could it be a precursor to a bigger attack? I read last week that yesterday was the anniversary of the death someone who is very popular in NK. Something to do with him making a party in the 30s. Can't remember his name.

I heard that a saudi guy was under watch in Boston hospital. But nothing on mainstream media

About 45 mins after 9/11 the US government "knew" who it was. But no one's pointed a finger yet?

Could it be a "false flag" op? Giving a reason to attack another country?

What's happened to the cctv around the area? Surely there's plenty along the route?

If you think the US aren't capable of such things then you're very naive.

But if you want to believe everything the sky/BBC news tell you, then that's your choice.

I'm just saying pay attention

This is seeming more and more like home grown attacks. Patriots day has a HUGE meaning to Boston and it was the day taxes are due also....Thoughts and prayers with everyone though.

As an American living in England and having lived in Europe I always get the "it's not safe over there " speech from people back home but I gotta say, I don't know if I'd feel safe in my homeland.

Still no one claiming this but thankfully no further bombs so far.

I don't think we can shut off all activities because of a few. London is always a target and has been for as long as I can remember. What we do well is getting things back to normal and carrying on.

Hey I know what the US is capable of. False flag attacks have happened and nobody responsible was incarcerated for them.

But please give it some time before jumping to conclusions. Otherwise you're upsetting a lot of people and taking for gospel the words of people you dont even know you can trust

without wanting to be branded a nutter..

but wasnt it the good old beeb during the miners strike who edited the footage from Orgreave to show the Police being attacked first..

when it was the other way around for which they later apologised..

It was'nt a case of embellish, it was edited 100% to give the opposite view of what actually happened..

and doubt it was purely their decision, just my opinion though..

relative to Boston clearly no, in response to the guys point about BBC etc..

just a point threads do diversify btw..

Listened to a friend of the father who's 8 year old son died, his daughter lost a leg and wife pretty badly injured also on 5 live this morning...

the lad had run over to give his dad a cuddle when he completed the marathon, Dad went on to book in etc and then it went off...

was truly harrowing..
