Recently I have found myself redefining my style and what I ware. As my job role involves wearing a uniform, I try to have a sense of style and flare on days off.

The proverb “Clothes maketh the man” has been around for a long time. It means that the way we dress can influence how others perceive us. In fact studies have shown that people do make snap judgments about others based on their appearance.

Of course, clothes don’t always tell the whole story. A person’s character and personality are more important than their outward appearance. But the way we dress can still make a difference in how others perceive us.

So I ask the FAB community (if you're still reading) is this true of you? What is it about a persons image or style makes your head turn?

I am experimenting with a beard. I am hoping it will hide my turkey neck. It’s coming out a bit sparse and with more grey than I was hoping for. That’s about as far as I go stylistically.

C’s style is fabulous - she can wear a simple dress and it looks incredible on her. I think some people can just dress really well regardless.

I have to think about what I’m wearing but scrub up well when I want to. I will usually go over dressed to events - much prefer to be remembered for dressing up than down.

My personal style is somewhere in sluttty goth, or gothy slut. I'm aware of how it makes people perceive me. But I like the way I look, and I spent far too many years minimising myself for the sake of other people's comfort.

On other people? Honestly I like the same. When I see someone I'm already drawn to goth it up and rock some fishnet stockings it definitely does something.

But I also don't really care. Of my favourite people one probably shops exclusively at primarks leisurewear section and sports direct, the other has some ridiculously flamboyant articles that I definitely wouldn't choose for myself, but they look amazing on him 💜

It's not the clothes, per se, it's the attitude that make the style and the look...and the way you wear it. Coordination and nonconformity is key.

But, yes, certainly timeless and iconic pieces of clothing do make a difference.

I'm making no sense.

Style shouldn't make any sense either.

I like to think I dress well enough day to day and wear what's appropriate for the occasion. For as much as women love suits and shirts, it's not something I always find myself comfortable in so if people are going to perceive me badly, it might as well be because they think less of what I'm wearing rather than projecting a level of being uncomfortable because I'm trying to impress them with my clothes

As long as the style is something that represents a person, they are comfortable and it reflects their personality that's all that matters. What others think of how you or I dress is none of our business.

I tend to dress in an alt vintage style so wiggle or wrap dresses but with fishnets and docs. I enjoy how I dress a lot.

I'm in the same club brother! Now I have less on the top I need to balance with some form of facial hair. I've just recently trimmed mine back to more of short/stubble.

Agree with this. I was out getting a few bits and saw a guy in a vest and jeans, any other guy in a vest and jeans would look like a shoplifter, but for 'reasons' he was strolling if anyone could pull it off. Nope. I'd look like a shoplifter.

I have a try at looking presentable but where I fall down is in what I throw on usually doesn't get looked at before or after I throw it on.
