Seems like a lot of money to cycle indoors.

When I cycle past a gym I always laugh to myself that they are paying to do what I do 'except' they looking out of a window and I'm taking in all the scenery.

Ah, you say that.

But I’m too fat to ride my bike now, and the roads are fuckin lethal. Potholes, poor surface, and maniac drivers.

On a static…..I get a better workout without risking my life’s

But in response I would say that they are warm, dry and unlikely to be run over.

I use my exercise bike like most people… as a clothes airer / drying rack

I could get many many years of gym membership for what my bikes cost

I guess cycling outdoors isn't for the easily scared but I've been cycling for nearly 50 years and always pay attention to avoid potholes and accidents.

Mind you I'm also a performance car owner so I ride my bike knowing how poor the skill is of the majority of car drivers now.

I love how you jump to the assumption of my being easily scared.

How about let’s just agree to disagree on how we prefer to cycle, and not get personal.

How do you ride your bike to take into account a distracted young driver in a Cleo coming up behind you on a single track road blind bend? I own an F Type (performancy I guess?) and honestly, I’m fucking puzzled how it helps me avoid other drivers whilst riding my bikes. I ride Road and Mountain bikes, Track ride with Derby Mercury do TTs and a using indoor rollers / exercise bikes / smart turbo trainers have their place in training.

Drivers awareness and attitude to cyclists has definitely changed over the course of the years smart phones in cars became and thing and car entertainment system integrated. Far too much distraction and the kids especially lack awareness and concentration

Two people I know directly have been killed in cycling accidents in the last six years or so.

Nothing will make me get on a bike outdoors.

I love Peloton bikes and I use them at hotels when I am working. But can’t afford one… and I have no space to put it!

To be honest if you questions every dangerous scenario of riding outside you will never go outdoors (By 'you' I mean anyone that is scared to ride outside because of the perceived risk)

I ride my bike with the knowledge of how terrible the majority of drivers are now, so on a level of Robocops perception I have dipped onto - clear - pavements and have even stopped at precarious bends just to allow traffic to flow.

I'm not your average brainless cyclist that winds motorists up though and I know there is a place for cycling indoors.

Their gym membership probably cost a lot less than your bike and they get a good laugh when they see you fixing your tyres.

I bought my Peloton during lockdown. and believe it or not, i still use it weekly.

The powerzone rides i find hugely beneficial. I'm a fair weather cyclist and usually to commute during the summer months.

My bike cost £1000 but I don't have to renew it's membership every year (& could potentially last me 20 years)

Oh and even on trails I probably fix a puncture quicker than they can go up a virtual hill while being told to cycle harder by a remote person

I guess that cheapy bike doesn’t use tubeless then

I am underwhelmed by your humbleness

Had a nightmare the last time I fixed a puncture. We live rural so lots of thorns etc. Filled the innertubes with slime. Carefully lined the tyres with 'bulletproof' liners.

Still got a puncture a few miles from home (bottom of a huge hill of course). Fixed it. Got a third of the way back up the hill and went flat again. Fixed it again and this time checked I'd got all the thorns out. The slime made this a nightmare because it had leaked out into the tyre.

Went flat yet again. This time the valve so I stuck my spare inner tube in. But by then I'd used up my only co2 cartridge for the pump

Had a nice walk home.

Slime is not very effective and yes I run one bike with tubes and one without.

You go out with tubeless tyres with no sealant in them? Latex sealant is pretty much standard, even just to slow down the gradual air losses at the rim seals. Do you just add a tube in the event of the tyre carcass being holed and getting a flat out on a ride?

Sometimes even getting a brand new tubeless tyre to seat is a nightmare in the workshop even with a compressor and I was a pro bike mechanic.

A gym also has a bit more than static bikes in them...

I did also suggest painting it white and sticking a trunk on it....
