Swingers parties in 70s and 80s

I had a random thought last night. How did swingers parties happen back pre-internet. Obviously I know that couples met through contact mags / porn mags but how did one arrange a party did you contact multiple couples etc….

Obviously keys in the bowl happened but, how did people invite multiple people. I don’t know if swinging clubs were very active, did people have like a Filofax or contact numbers of other friends

Just a really random thought that I never have ever considered

Adult contact magazines, postcards or letters sent to a PO box, and believe it or not people used to communicate via "word of mouth" yes I realise it's probably hard to believe that the world existed before the internet!

I was under the impression it was groups of real life friends who joined in with the thing of the day.

They invited other friends they knew would be up for it.

Friends.. who knew other couples.. who knew a couple of guys…

Then a party held at a friendly pub after hours or a scout hut (yes, and other discreet spaces where a gathering of people wouldn’t be noticed. I know a Sailing Club that hired a space for a private event that turned out to be a 30 person wife-swap party). It was usually bring your own…. Mattress 😈

What about having pampas grass in the front garden so signal that you were swingers, was that true?

I didn't know it but we had pampas grass and my mum and dad uses Contact mags. I was 14/15 was told to pack a bag and go round my nans. Barry White and Hot Chocolate were on the stereo so I slammed the front door hard and sneaked back up to my bedroom. Fuck what a night. Thank god my nan never had a phone and mobiles were not around...wished I had a camera though

Well in 2004 when I was with my ex as my gf, her parents had gone to Spain and she was looking through her parents bedroom draws for something and found a ton of contact magazines with grainy photos of naked couples

I started swinging as a young single stud back in the late 80s in London. As already mentioned it was mainly contact mags, but Loot also had a very active personals section.

Parties came from personal invitations as back then the gutter press was actively trying to expose anyone they deemed "perverted". There was one guy I knew that used to arrange parties at his place get exposed in the News of the World. Ruined his life.

Email and the internet made things so much easier.

I had an accommodation address. Basically an address that would forward mail to your real address so you didn't have to give it out to strangers.

The first couple we met was from an ad we put in a contact mag. They were older than us which wasn't had we were only 22/23. They were in there 30's, we arranged a meet at there place. We were told nothing would happen as they would have kids in the house. They were checking us out they told about couple they knew and a few singles. The next week we met a lovely couple and swapped after that were on the list for a group. Later we were invited to a party and found some people had parties regularly. It was mainly done by word of month when you were in the groups as mags were so slow.

Where did men complain to, if they'd sent an SAE to an ad in a contact magazine but they didn't get a 'thanks but no thanks' back? Did the mags get filled with whinging?

They used to place ads in contact magazines or the back pages of ordinary publications. They'd say there was a party and people who wanted to go would reply to a PO box number. They'd pick the replies up, vet the applicants and then contact them to give the address etc.

I know this because I worked for such a publication.

My late wife and I were at a friends party where there was lots of snogging and groping going on and we both got involved. afterwards we discussed the fact that we both found it exciting and wanted to take it further so we used a contact magazine.

It was the Loot ads that got me (Mr) into the swinger scene.

Mid 80's and I was using it for the odd encounter and did ok.

I then got a message from a couple who wanted me to fuck the wife while the guy watched. I was a bit apprehensive but I went for it.

Over the next few months I had quite a few sessions with them, they even introduced me to a female friend of theirs. They also told me about a swinger club in Manchester.

Back then I had no idea what a swinger club was but I just had to go and at least have a look.

I did and the rest is history.

The club was the Adam & Eve at Eccles (still going I believe) and I was a regular in there for a good few years.
