How different people view the definition of "curvy" is going to vary. It could be anything from a lady or man being a little plump to being very large.

My advice to you is to pass by the profiles that don't fit your personal expectations.

People can describe themselves however they want to. What I've found on here there is always someone who is more than happy to tell you that no matter how you describe yourself that you are wrong. I had fabulous was told I'm not. I had curvy was told I'm not. I now have just average and yes I've been told I'm not. I've had ample and yep told I'm not the same for ample. You cannot win on here. I am over weight I never lie about that and I actually couldn't give a rats arse anymore if people decide I'm not what they think a certain phrase means.

If people have curvy and you don't agree than just be an adult and move on .It is not up to you or anyone to define how others want to describe themselves.

People can describe themselves however they wish.

It has no impact on you, and you just move on from the profile if you don't like what you see.

For those who think it's shallow to ask. There are mamy profiles on here where people only have limited public pictures or take careful images which don't show figure. Everybody has a prefence as do I which I find attractive and the last thing I want to do if offend anyone by saying not for me when it's revealed. I imagine it's awful. Just think it would be better is it was clearer, ie dress size etc.

Dress size doesn't provide clarity.

My shoulders and chest need a size 14, my hips a size 16, my waist a size 8.

And a size 16 on a 6 foot frame looks and feels wildly different to a size 16 on someone barely 5ft tall even if the sizing was consistent 💜

The simple solution is for you to add acceptable dress sizes to your profile text. Perhaps in a little table according to height range?

It would look well along side the one explaining the erg splits I can expect from "athletic" according to age...

We all have preferences. I only play with a tiny minority of people I interact with. It's perfectly possible to handle that politely.

Wanting a specific body type isn't shallow at all, if you're looking for sex most.people want someone that they are physically attracted to.

I wouldn't take much notice of what people describe themselves as, if you have a preference, state it on your profile and in a message if the pictures aren't clear.

Most bodybuilders in their off season are pretty thick-almost curvy 🤭...muscular doesn't necessarily mean ripped (low bodyfat). And this is not me discrediting your opinion (please don't take it as disrespect and hope my comment is not perceived as passive aggressive🙏)...we all have a concept of what "curvy" means. This is just the nature of the forum...people bouncing opinions and ideas of each other.

That is most definitely curvy. Perfect figure imo

Much larger people consider themselves curvy too

I see where OP is coming from. It's subjective and not going to change.

Same way athletic is subjective.

Just scroll past when the photos are not to your liking.

When searching for body type is not an option, a person's own description is irrelevant. Go by the most recent photos and hope for the best.

Personally for me plus size is more ambiguous.

In the UK the average dress size is 16. Does that mean anyone above that is plus size? You often get women who,it would seem from pictures, don't look plus size describe themselves as plus size. Perhaps they are just overcompensating. And I realise that going by dress size still allows variables, different brands have different sizes and what not.

But at the end of the day people can describe themselves how they like. Whether you agree with them or not is another matter. I guess you've just got to meet them and see if you are physically attracted to them.

Dress size does not equate to curvy tho. It's just dress size. People can be a size 8 or 20 for example and it doesn't mean they are curvy. Curvy is more a shape that a size .

Quite simply op state of it bothers you say on your profile what you are looking for people can then choose if go reply to you or not if they don't fit what you want.

Everyone has preferences and are allowed to pick who they want to meet. And I don't know why people get so pissed off if they don't meet another's preferences. Would they prefer to be a pity shag I know I wouldn't

Why should women post their dress size? A 12-14 on a 4"5' woman will be vastly different to the same on a 5"10. Should we all line up like show ponies and list our measurements, so men can make their selections better? bra size is important too, no?

As others have said, go by the pictures as body type seems to be subjective.

I've seen men and women describe themselves differently to how I would, but that's their choice.

If they don't have pics or they're out of date, you could ask for some more or just avoid those profiles.

I state my body type and dress size on my profile, so nobody can be suprised.

You can't really go on pictures either if I'm honest, the right angle can add 5 inches to a dick and make a size 20 look like a size 12.

The only way your really going to find out is by meeting people in person. Everyone is entitled to a preference the same way as every women is entitled to describe herself the way she wants to.

I think women hold their curves very differently. Most men like hips, thighs and arse I think, but some women hold it on their stomach.

"For those who think it's shallow to ask.

Why should women post their dress size? A 12-14 on a 4"5' woman will be vastly different to the same on a 5"10. Should we all line up like show ponies and list our measurements, so men can make their selections better? bra size is important too, no?

Yes.

I think it's pretty obvious who isn't curvy (even though they say they are) and who isn't by the photos if you want proof before a meet up ask them? Then you can decide whether she floats your boat or not

I've had others tell me I don't meet their own definition of curvy and frankly I don't really care and I'm not going to argue with someone about what my body type is or isn't. With regards to dress sizes that would never give you a true indication of how a woman looks

Ie a size 20 dress on a 5"4 woman is going to look completely different to a 5"7 woman wearing a size 20 dress 👗

I would call out a man for describing as athletic because I don't look at mens profiles. I wasnt calling out. I agreed a meet with someone described as curvy. Arranged a drink and she couldn't fit the seatbelt into the clip. (True story) . I felt terrible being in person and saying no thanks as I didn't want to hurt feelings but her images and the body shape on the profile I found a bit misleading. It wasted everybodies time and was awkward.

Good idea but it wouldn't help: physical prowess doesn't necessarily match looks.

As an example, I myself am not ripped in the slightest, not even remotely (I'm average at best), and yet I can run decent times and do fairly decent at quite a few sports (I'm even a qualified instructor of one). I -am- athletic, but I don't -look- athletic, so I wouldn't put it on my profile, tbh.

I have curves therefore I describe myself as curvy. I wouldn't change it just because someone else didn't agree. My pics show off my figure, if that's enough for someone then pass me by. Posting dress sizes to a profile is rubbish as womens dress sizes are awful and not a true representation of anything. If I went by my wardrobe, I'd be at least 5 different sizes.

The responsibility for due diligence is on you though. Not her. Plenty of people take photos of themselves to present in the best possible light and in ways that they are comfortable showing themselves. It's not hard to observe and if your not sure you can ask or be clearer about your own preferences.

At the end of the day you met someone you weren't attracted to and it could just as easily been for any number of other reasons.

Hmm maybe you should have better processes in choosing who you meet? I'm a larger woman and even whilst heavily pregnant I still easily fitted in car seat belts. And there were no way of hiding all that extra size in photos. I'd recommend maybe video calling or meeting for a social only at a public place to avoid such issues.

OP, if you have a predilection for a certain sized/shaped woman - which is perfectly acceptable, by the way - I think you'd need to see full body pics and make your own conclusion.

Lots of women on FAB say "curvy" but, in MY opinion, would be classed as "ample". I have put ample on my profile, as I've recently piled on the weight; so although i still have curves as every woman has, the overall appearance is decidedly large.

No one wants to tick a box that says "fat", but at 5'3" & a size 18, I'm pretty much fat. And I've no probs with that. Lovely guys on here talk about my curves & having something to grab hold of. That's nice to hear. But when I talk about a curvy woman, I think Marilyn Monroe, Christina Hendricks, Salma Hayak, etc. Boobs & hips & a small waist.

Not barrel shaped, like me

OP, at the end of the day, I think you should ignore the labels, and where possible, just look at the pictures, that's your best bet.

Yeah, there's camera angles, filters, lighting, lingerie, and whatnot, but you can still get a rough idea whether they fall within your "range" or not, and if still on the fence, ask for a clear body shot. There is nothing wrong with that.

As mentioned in many other threads about similar topics, there is a lot of subjectivity involved, and we can pretend all want but we're ALL very, very visual beings: especially for the kind of interactions that we pursue in this community, looks (and the subsequent attraction) matter, a lot. Yes, most of us require a bit of "connection" too, but our subconscious will struggle to be open to that, with someone whose looks we don't like in the slightest. It's human nature.

It's impossible to state someone's dress size and decide what shape they are. That's the point. Us disclosing really personal info like dress or bra size literally helps nothing.

I'd never dream of asking for a bloke's waist measurement or collar size before deciding to meet them. I'd look at pictures and make my own mind up about whether I found them attractive. Actual measurements are meaningless.

To be fair. Most bloke's probably don't ask for dress size and there's lots and lots of women's profiles that list it.

So if men are so incapable of interpreting that info alongside photos and the listed height, what's the point?

A lot of people ask about it via PM. Probably why women list it, even though it's meaningless because it genuinely is. Two women of 5ft 6in, size 16, will have very different body shapes. And let's not get started on the fact "size 16" is also pretty meaningless when sizing is so inconsistent between retailers. I have clothing that fits me from size 14 to 18, for starters.

It's not about MEN being unable to interpret so much as the actual information being meaningless. To everyone.

Surely what you see and how you connect will play a bigger part in a decision for a social. If you’re then not happy with what you see, you can still walk away

"Just think it would be better is it was clearer, ie dress size etc.

Dress size doesn't provide clarity.

My shoulders and chest need a size 14, my hips a size 16, my waist a size 8.

And a size 16 on a 6 foot frame looks and feels wildly different to a size 16 on someone barely 5ft tall even if the sizing was consistent 💜"

Excellently put. I'm a short girl. I class myself as curvy but my dress size on a taller lady would look completely different x

somewhere

I recently changed my body type to "ample" from "fabulous" as I've lost so much weight, I'm definitely more than curvy (if I was to use the markers set out here).

I would say anyone not skinny would be classed as curvy, even me could be curvy as I do have them but I also know that I'm still carrying a bit more lard then I want too.

I don't think there is a right or wrong answer tbh.

I put myself as ample. Mainly because of my natural body type. Because even at my smallest (size 14 bottoms) my waist isn't that much smaller than my hips, therefore i wouldnt call myself curvy as i dont go in, out, in. But also even at my current size 20 my boobs stick out more than my belly. Which i like.

I may ne gulty of a flattering camera angles in pictures but a lot of that is because of recovering body image issues and what i like to see, not because im trying to mislead anyone.

I don't know how to define curvy, all I can say is I definitely prefer women who, if we're using the fab scale, are curvy, ample, fabulous.

As a larger gent myself, I feel like I'll hurt someone who's skinny.

'Curvy' stretches, from what I've seen on fab, is somewhere between J Lo and Dainty Golightly.

"For those who think it's shallow to ask. "
why..most men haven't a clue about dress sizes .. and what one person looks like at a certain size can be very different to someone else.

I'm curvy but I'm also fat.... however my hip to waist measurement is very different. So whilst it's probably a rather big hour glass.. I still have one

But to be fair... I'm slim for a lady my partner is interested in

I’m not getting involved in this one, as I’m sure everyone has their own measurement opinion
