To “Quote” in responses?

Are those that are quoted informed of such or only if they go through the thread to find it?

As it seems frustrating that you are not informed when someone has responded to your post and wondered if the quote works differently?

You gotta keep your eyes peeled for a response.

No other way of knowing them spotting it yourself

I’ve oft thought it would be a good feature to get a notification if someone has specifically responded to one of my irresistible comments. Other apps do it. Although I imagine if you’re the OP on a thread it would get a bit annoying.

I know my words are quoted (probably) out there in the world. I’m ok with that. Let the words fly free and live. Like birds of paradise. Covering the world with bird shit of wisdom

You can upgrade to Platinum Member and it has that feature bottom left of home page. Set to 'auto inform'

Alicante, Spain. (Sometimes in Wales)

I get a bit miffed when people "quote" absolutely everything from an earlier post, whether it's relevant to their response or not.

Some times it's multiple times the length of their eventual comment!!

So basically the only way to respond and for the person you are responding to, and recurve is a personal message? Which of course is intrusive unless offered

So the forum is kind of pointless then

It’s not a “must-use” part of the site OP. If it’s pointless to you then don’t use it 💯

The forum is completely pointless - that’s the point.

Not really. I suppose the idea is that you reasonably regularly return to the forum and follow threads on which you have posted and are interested. You can just focus on replies to your own comment but the community thrives if people read and respond to other posts as well. You wouldn’t have got a response at all if someone hadn’t taken the time to read every other post.

It’s a living thing and has brought lots of people together in friendship.

So no, not pointless. But if it’s not working for you then fair enough.

Er, it was a bit naughty of them to mention it. Next thing you know everyone will want guaranteed answers to their messages and meets on demand. Doh!

If you press the little green arrow next to your name you can see the threads you've posted on recently. Then click 'your last post'. It's fairly easy to catch up.

This.

There ends up being a massive wall of text and the quote/reply is only in reference to a sentence buried in the middle somewhere, you have to read the whole thing, most of which isn’t relevant, just to find out what they’re on about.

Confession, I have done it myself when in too much of a rush to delete all the irrelevant bits.

I think a lot of people who already get too much mail, would be less likely to post, due to the potential avalanche to their inbox.

The forum is a minority interest in fab and I'd prefer fundamental site changes instead, as a priority
