I think there is a lot of misunderstanding about depression ..we have a fb who suffers from this and it can be a totally debilitating disease .. you would get a lot more understanding from many folks if you had a plaster cast on your arm and they could actually see the problem .. wish you all the best and feel free to mail us if you ever need a chat

When you wake up tomorrow, set yourself a little task... When you've done it, look at it as a little victory....

Simple things to perk up a down day...

I am not bipolar but have suffered bouts of depression over the years. I know it sounds simple, but I have found a PMA (hardest thing in the world when depressed and breathing seems pointless, I know!), good diet and regular exercise do work. Also, I find perspective is a great thing - there is always someone worse off than you.

Am not bi polar but have suffered from depression on an off since I was 16 . I have learnt to deal with it, it doesn't stop it but I do understand it now , if that makes sense

I have BPD and depression is some thing I fight each and evey day . I am loving the set a little job each day and once you have done it look at it as a victory thing . Think I might use that my self . Now just need to find the will power to get out of bed x

I don't suffer from depression, but did start to find that during the winter I didn't feel so bubbly.

Same here. I like the sun. And my vitamin D. I know someone who has occasional bouts of depression and she stays in bed a lot. I always want to cheer her up but she won't see me when she's like that.

I've typed, retyped, deleted and started again with this post, I don't want to sound patronizing.

I want to offer my support to everyone suffering from depression, I don't suffer from but have seen the effect it can have, so wish you all the happiness in the world.

The idea about little day by day tasks with rewards sounds like a great idea.

carbamazepine is an anti epileptic, why do you take that ? They have a fairly high side effect of causing depresion in the first place.

"carbamazepine is an anti epileptic, why do you take that ? They have a fairly high side effect of causing depresion in the first place."

Carbamazepine (CBZ) (Tegretol, Equetro) is an anticonvulsant and mood-stabilizing drug used primarily in the treatment of epilepsy and bipolar disorder, as well as trigeminal neuralgia. It is also used off-label for a variety of indications, including attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), schizophrenia, phantom limb syndrome, complex regional pain syndrome, paroxysmal extreme pain disorder, neuromyotonia, intermittent explosive disorder, borderline personality disorder, Myotonia congenita and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Like other anticonvulsants, intrauterine exposure is associated with spina bifida[1] and neurodevelopmental problems.[2]

I've just been officially diagnosied with depression but I've known for years I suffer from it. However I'm now learning how to deal with it. For me I try to listen to a song or two that I know will have me dancing and signing along. Usually Katy perry for some odd reason lol firework especially. Muse songs can be very uplifting, hurricanes and butterflies makes me feel like I can take on the world. Breathing is an amazing tool, I've been taught the 9:11 pattern. Breathe in slowly for the count of 9, breathe out slowly for the count of 11. It makes a difference. Slow controlled breathing is an awesome trick. And lastly exercise. Even just a five minute stomp around the block. Fresh air and sunshine (if we have any) really helps. But even a walk in the wind and the rain can help. For me a walk on a beach cures everything. Just unfortunate I moved from a seaside town to the dead centre of the uk lol but I make do with a walk round some lakes if I can

And to all of us sufferers , remember we are never alone

X

I lost my job in february and March was a struggle to find new work, rent and money for bills. My advice is to tell someone, family or close friends, that you're not happy. I think if I hadn't put my sadness to someone that I could have fallen into deeper into a place I didn't want to be and basically just given up.

In April, I'm working. Got some freelance opportunities and hopefully get chosen for some fun, well-paid weekend opportunities.

I think sharing the commonality of with living with depression is good. But I will always say, be wary of all you expose about yourself, there are those who seek the vulnerable.

May all who battle, win over time.
